Chapter ten
"Hey Dare," I greeted while walking into the Curtis house.
"Howdy"
"Soda up yet?"
"Nope,"
"Have you thought of a punishment for him?"
Darry leaned back against the counter and lifted his coffee. "Cleaning the gutters maybe?"
"Well I was thinking, maybe I could take him though my workout this morning before he went to work,"
"While he's hungover?" I nodded, "Ooo that's good. What's your workout?"
"Quick four mile run then off to the gym for some arm weights, but I'll send him off to work before I hit the gym."
"Sounds perfect."Two miles into our run and Soda was dying."I thought I was in shape,"
I laughed, "Common you're halfway done"
"Half!?!"
"Yep. We're close to Darry's job site, wanna talk a break and go say hi?"
"God yes,""Hey little buddy," Darry greeted as we walked up to the constitution site. All Soda could manage was a nod as he collapsed onto some stacked wood.
Darry turned to me, "How's it going?"
"Good, were about half way done," Soda whimpered and Darry laughed.
"Howya doin' bud?"
"I'd rather clean gutters for the rest of my life. I swear to god I am never drinking again."
"Good," Darry turned to me and handed me his keys, "Why don't you just drive him home than to work. I think he's learned his lesson."
I smiled,"Sounds good. Oh Pepsi-Cola," I called out. "You merciful brother has decided you've fulfilled your punishment and I can drive you home,"
"Thank god!"Darry and I had finished making dinner and sat with Ponyboy and Soda and the table.
"Cal, I have no idea how you do that everyday, I cannot feel my legs."
I laughed, "That was nothing, you should have seen the workouts Sergei made me do. One time he set up a ropes course for me but tied one hand behind my back and weights on my ankles"
"That sounds awful,"
"Oh it was, the whole time he was yelling 'This is pathetic, back in my country todalars do this for resses" I said in a Russian accent. "He added extra weights to my legs when I asked if I got nap time after."
"And I thought my track coach was mean," Ponyboy said.
"HeyPonyboy you should run with Cal sometime," soda suggested.
"If it's anything like what she just asked descibed, hard pass."
"Don't worry, I'll go easy on you. What events do you run?"
"Well Last year I ran the 800 but my coaches really wanted me to run the 400. I'm not so sure though."
"Yeah the 400 is a killer," Soda and Darry looked confused so I clairlied "400 meters, its a fourth of a mile or one lap of the track. It sounds easy but you basically have to sprint the whole thing. I hated it but I was really good so I always did it."
"What was your time?" Pony asked.
"My best was 54 seconds butI averaged 58."
"Holy shit,"
"Language!" Darry reprimanded.
"Sorry Darry but, that's incredible. That's what like a 3 and a half minute mile?"
I couldn't help but smile.Ponyboy and I got up to clear the table as we did Darry and Soda talked.
"Sodapop, I know you've had a tough time lately but you cant drink like that especially when you're supposed to be looking after Ponyboy."
"I know," Soda said glumly.
"You have two options, one, go to therapy."
"Darry I really don't want to go to therapy. What's option 2?"
"Workout everyday with Cal."
"I'll go to therapy." Soda said almost immediately.
I couldn't help but smile. Because of how desperate Soda was to never run with me again and at the fact that he was going to be getting some help.IMPORTANT- The Soda/therapy plot line is based off another fic. It's called Feel Again by randlesdx Soda basically meets a girl at support group. Anyways this chapter is garbage and I wrote in ten minutes. I'm sorry. This is the first story I've ever written so it's not great but I'll for sure finish it but I am writing another, much better, Dallas fic that I am going to post when finished and I am so exited. Thanks for reading. Don't forget to vote!
