HOPE MAKES HER way to class, about to turn a corner when she stops abruptly.

Millie is crouching down in front of a little girl about ten years old—she's crying, shaking, with her head between her knees. The hall lights are flickering, and the pictures on the wall are shaking.

"Hey, it's okay. Shh, I'm here," Millie's voice is soft and comforting as she runs a hand gently through the girl's blonde hair.

Hope feels a smile lift her lips as she watches the scene. Maybe she should walk away, but she always finds herself glued to the spot whenever Millie is doing something—anything, really.

"I know first days are always hard, but I'm here for you, Luna," Millie says softly with a small smile on her sparkly pink lip-glossed lips, the colour matching her light pink flowy dress. Her hair is pulled back in French braids with cute, little white flowers woven through.

Millie couldn't care less if she sometimes looks like a kid with the clothes she wears, or that sometimes teenagers laugh at her if she wears a tutu.

Wearing cute dresses and putting flowers in her hair makes her happy, makes her feel more alive than she actually is. It says more about the person judging her than it does about her.

"You're actually so brave to be here, and I think that's amazing," Millie continues, eyes bright and shining as the little girl lifts her head to take a peek at the teenager who has taken time out of her day to comfort a stranger. "I just got here like a month ago myself, and I think you're handling it better than I am."

That's a lie—Millie is ecstatic to be here, all things considered. She couldn't be happier.

Not only has she connected with her birth mother, but now she has two younger sisters whom she already loves very much, and has made great friends, such as Hope Mikaelson, who she feels makes her the happiest.

Luna lifts her head, looking at Millie with bright green eyes and her blonde, curly hair framing her small face. "Really?"

"Really." Millie nods and grins, tugging lightly on a blonde curl by Luna's ear. "You'll make friends in no time, don't you worry." She leans forward, pressing a gentle kiss to the girl's forehead. "You already have one. Me."

The girl's smile widens, and she sniffs, wiping away her tears. "Really?!" Her childlike voice carries in the hallway. "A friend?" She looks a little sheepish as she holds up her pinky finger. "Pinky promise?"

Millie giggles, interlocking their pinkies. "Friends forever." She pulls back, sliding her daisy-shaped purse off her shoulder. Unzipping it, she shuffles through the contents before pulling out a candy bar. She holds it out to the girl. "Here you go, Peaches."

Luna takes it, holding it to her chest like it's a treasure. "Thank you," she says softly.

Millie smiles. "I think it's time you go to class, huh?"

Luna nods and stands with the help of Millie. "Thanks, missy."

"You're welcome." Millie bends down slightly to press another kiss to her forehead. "Off you go." She stays there, smiling as the little girl skips off to class.

Hope stands there in the corner of the hall, her eyes wide and her heart hammering inside her chest. Her cheeks warm as the blonde zombie's smile just widens as the kid turns the corner.

Millie's smile is one of happiness, much like a spring flower opening for the first time. It lights her eyes, spreading into every part of her body.

Her smiles are the prettiest thing Hope has seen in a long time—for they reach her eyes and almost seem to come from deep within her soul.

She's the gentle touch, the honesty that is purity, and her childhood innocence so vibrant and free.

The tribrid seems to freeze as she realises what's been going on for weeks now.

She's falling in love with Millie Moore.

Hope's heart seems to stop as those words ring loudly in her head.

I'm not falling—I'm already in love with Millie Moore.

Fuck!

Before the blonde can notice her in the hallway, Hope is quick to rush away, panicking about her new realisation.

A COUPLE OF hours later, Millie is in her joined room with the twins, sitting at her easel where she's in the process of painting Hope's smiling face.

She had seen the girl earlier that day talking with Lizzie about something in the cafeteria, her eyes bright and her smile carefree, and Millie just had to put it down somewhere.

As she stops after painting half of Hope's beautiful face, Millie takes a second just to stare at it and think back to the twins' birthday party.

She most definitely had a crush on the tribrid upon first talking to her. But that night... that night changed everything.

Millie sits there, staring at the half-done painting, her cheeks turning a bright red as the realisation hits her.

She has fallen really hard for Hope Mikaelson.
