It was Jake's day off having covered for me last night.
Carrying through a crate of bottle beers, I ticked it off on my inventory, almost on autopilot as my mind was still ticking over the conversation with Jenna earlier.
Thankfully, what I thought was going to be a major grovelling session at the hospital, turned into something I hadn't predicated. In fact, it was the complete opposite of what I'd been expecting.
Thank Christ.
I had in all honesty thought she was going to blow me off. Not that I would have held it against her—I should have been honest from the start.
But in the end, it had gone in my favour; I think the deal clincher had been Jenna finding out I'd punched Tony.
And in truth, she'd actually looked happy with that bit of information.
A rush of anger swelled, as it always did when I thought about him cheating, hurting her in the worst way. And the goddamn nerve of him to threaten me to stay away. Like what Jenna did now was anything to do with him. He was on a different planet.
—But then again it shouldn't have shocked me. Tony never did like sharing his toys when we were kids. And even though he didn't want Jenna. He didn't want anyone else to be with her either.
Asshole.
Thankfully, on this occasion, he hadn't come between us. Jenna made it clear we were good, which was a huge win in my books.
As my smile widened, my mind drifted to our night together... being in bed, making love. Goosebumps flooded my arms, and my friend twitched... no surprise there!
It had been perfect. In fact, better. The fantasy didn't even come close to touching reality. I rubbed my hand across my jaw; it ached with all the smiling.
Thank Christ Jake wasn't here, he already thought I was under the thumb.
Was I? who cared? I would happily be under any part of Jenna.

Dragging another crate through, about to restock. A gust of warm air brushed against my bare arms, running up my t-shirt.
Twisting my head around. The door opened, and even with the sun directly behind the hulking outline, casting him in a shadow—I knew who it was. "Hey, can't stay away?"
He shrugged, "What can I say, need my daily Gabe fix." Shutting the door behind him. "And to get the 911 on your date last night... and if you hit a home run." He winked, pretending to swing a bat.
"Seriously, you're here just for that? Man, when did you morph into a chick?"
He threw his head back and laughed before feigning a look of a wounded soldier. "I've listened to you go on and on about Jenna for years. I've earned it!"
