I felt warm, sticky and possibly awkward, but here, with the woman I wanted a future with, and with two left feet, I would dance till she begged me to stop or my feet bled, whichever came first.
As a slower song chorused through the surrounding speakers, I took Jenna's hand, twirled her around, pulling her snugly against me. My head rested on top of hers as she lay hers against my chest. Encasing her warm body, she melted into my hold. I wondered if she could feel my heart banging against my ribcage. Slowly, my hand ran the length of her spine, catching the edging of her top. Smooth, warm skin teased my fingers, eliciting a shiver from Jenna and an explosion of something deep and needy inside my chest.
Without thought or hesitation, I kissed the crown of her head, inhaling as much of her as possible without looking like some kind of weirdo. But she smelt delicious, never having met a woman where her smell drove me just as crazy as her beauty. I closed my eyes and for a moment it felt like we were the only ones there.
The band had long since ended their set and the bar DJ was planning music from all genres and as one song ended, the next one started. Sadly, for me, one a little more upbeat.
Jenna twisted her head, pulled marginally away, looking up towards me. Her cheeks flushed a dusky pink and her eyes were still as bright as the minute I'd seen her walk through the door.
"Drink?" she asked, whilst dropping her hand from my arm to take my hand.
I wasn't so sure if it was a good idea for her to keep drinking, but she seemed to handle it better than most men I knew. I'd only had two, but then again, I was already drunk on her.
"Sure, lead the way."
"Great." She pulled me towards the bar.
Jake's cocky smile greeted us. "Hey, Jake. Water for me and—" I shifted my eyes to Jenna, flicking my head.
She bit her bottom lip before looking at the line-up of assorted alcohol behind Jake. "Better stick to what I know. Glass of Red, whatever you have."
"He grabbed me a bottle of water for me and put a glass of house red in front of Jenna."
She lifted her drink but kept her eyes on Jake. "Thanks. You look familiar. Have we met before?" she smiled at my best friend.
"Believe me, sweetheart, if you'd met me—you wouldn't forget." He cocked his brow, continuing to smirk.
"Yeah, you'd remember him like remembering a nasty bug you couldn't get shut of." I rolled my eyes. Jake would flirt with a corpse, no doubt.
Jake snorted. "Ignore smart ass here," gesturing with his thumb in my direction. "He's jealous because he wasn't born as beautiful as me." Winking at her before changing the subject. "You havin' a good time, Jenna?"
