Andy's pov
Today was the first day in a few weeks that Robert and I had the same day off, so we decided to do something nice with Gabby.
"So, where do you want to go?" Robert asked me, as we laid in bed.
"I don't mind, where do you think Gabby will like?" I asked, tracing circles on his bare arm that was wrapped around me.
"Hmm, we could go hiking, maybe?" He suggested.
"Yeah, that's a good idea!" I said.
After lying there for a few more minutes, we got up, and dressed into clothes appropriate for hiking. Then, I went to wake Gabby up, and Robert went to make us all some breakfast.
"Morning princess, time to wake up," I said, as I went into her room. She sat up, rubbing her eyes sleepily, and smiled at me.
"Morning Drea, what are we doing today?" She asked.
"Well me and your daddy were thinking that we could all go for a hike, if that's okay with you," I told her.
"Yeah! Neither of you are working?" She asked.
"No, not today," I said, and she smiled. I helped her get dressed into some leggings, a T-shirt and a cardigan, and then we went downstairs.
"Good morning," Robert said, as he was frying some bacon to make bacon sandwiches.
"Morning daddy. Drea said we're going for a hike," Gabby said, taking a seat at the table.
"That's right," he confirmed.
We all sat and ate breakfast, and then Robert and I started to put together a picnic. I made some sandwiches, while he got some other snacks from the cupboards and the fridge.
"Okay, I think that's everything. You ready to go?" Robert asked.
"Yup," I said, and I took the bag to put in the car whilst Robert buckled Gabby into her car seat.
On the way to the hiking trail, Robert held my hand whilst he drove, as Gabby chattered away happily in the back.
Not long later, we arrived, and parked, before getting out.
As we walked, Gabby held both of our hands and skipped along in between us. I looked over at Robert and smiled, savouring the moment. It wasn't very often we got the same days off, so it was nice for the three of us to go out and do something.
Soon, we came to a clearing with a picnic bench in the middle of it, so we sat down to eat.
I got the food out of the basket, and Robert got out the paper plates.
We talked while we ate, and before we knew it, everything was gone. We picked up all the rubbish and put it in a bin that was nearby, and then carried on walking.
"Look there's a park!" Gabby exclaimed about an hour later, pointing over to it.
"Oh go on then, you can play for a bit," Robert said, and we watched as she ran over to it.
We walked behind her, slower, until we got to a bench. We sat down, and I rested my head on Robert's shoulder.
"Tired?" He asked, and I nodded.
"Yeah, I didn't exactly get much sleep tonight," I answered, smirking at him.
He laughed, and was about to reply, when Gabby came back over to us.
"Can we get ice cream?" She asked, and I noticed an ice cream van pulling up not far away.
"Okay, but just a small one," Robert said, standing up. I put a hand on his shoulder, pulling me back down.
"I'll get them," I said.
"You sure?" He asked.
"Yeah, which one do you want?" I asked.
"I don't mind, I'll just have whatever you have," he answered and I nodded.
"You coming to see what you want?" I asked Gabby, holding out my hand which she happily took.
When we got over to the ice cream van, I lifted her up so she could see the options.
"Can I have a cone with bubblegum sauce please?" Gabby asked politely.
"Of course you can Princess. Do you want to go and wait with your Daddy while I get them?" I suggested, and she nodded, running back to Robert.
I ordered her ice cream, and then two with strawberry sauce for me and Robert. As I was waiting for them, a woman started to talk to me.
"Your daughters so cute," she said, smiling.
"Oh, um... she's not... Gabby's not my daughter," I stuttered. "She's my boyfriends daughter."
"I'm so sorry! I just assumed," the woman said.
"No, it's fine. I'm Andrea, but everyone calls me Andy," I introduced myself.
"I'm Kathleen, but everyone calls me Kat," she said, holding out her hand, which I shook.
"Do you have kids?" I asked, starting a conversation while we were both waiting for our ice creams.
"No. I'm in the fire academy, and my boyfriends in the police academy, so we've not really had time to think about kids yet," she answered.
"Wait, really? Me and my boyfriend are both firefighters too," I exclaimed.
"Wow, that's so cool! What station?" Kat asked.
"I'm at Station 19, Robert's at Station 88," I told her, and she smiled.
"19's kinda my dream station, but I doubt I'll get in," she said nervously.
"I'm on shift tomorrow, how about you come and I can show you around, maybe give you some tips," I suggested.
"Really? That would be great, thank you so much," she said.
"It's no problem. Just ask for Lieutenant Herrera at the desk when you come in," I said.
A few seconds later, the ice creams were ready, so I took them and said goodbye to Kat.
"I've got to go now, but it was nice meeting you. And I hope I'll see you tomorrow," I said.
"Yeah, nice meeting you too, and I'll be there," Kat said, and I smiled at her before going back over to Robert and Gabby.
I passed them both their ice creams, and I sat down as they both thanked me.
"Who was that?" Robert asked curiously.
"Kat, I just met her. She's in the fire academy, and Station 19 is one of her choices, so I'm going to show her around next shift," I told him.
"That's nice," Robert said, and I nodded.
We finished the ice creams, and then walked back to the car.
When we got back home, it was somehow already Gabby's bed time. I guess it's true what people say about time flying when you're having fun.
"Can you both come and tuck me in?" Gabby asked.
"Of course princess," I said, and the three of us went up to her bedroom. She put her pjs on, and then climbed into bed.
"Bed time story?" She asked, and Robert nodded.
"Which one do you want?" He asked.
"Can you make one up?" She asked, answering his question with another question.
"Um... okay," Robert said, and I laughed under my breath.
Gabby was lying down, and Robert and I were both perched on the edge of her bed.
"Once upon a time, there was a princess called Princess Gabby. She lived in a palace, which had pink walls and even a swimming pool in the garden. One day, she went swimming in her pool, and noticed something pink shimmering under the water. When she looked down, she saw that her legs had turned into a mermaid tail! For the rest of the day, Princess Gabby had fun being a mermaid, until it was time for her to go to bed. She fell asleep extra quickly because all the swimming made her tired," Robert made up a story.
By the time he had finished, Gabby had fallen asleep. We both pressed a kiss to her forehead, and then snook out of the room.
We went into our room, and Robert turned to look at me.
"Wait in here," he ordered, and I nodded, confused.
I sat down on the bed, pulling out my phone.
To Maya:
Hey Maya. I was just wondering if it would be okay for me to show a fire cadet around the station tomorrow?
A few seconds later, I got a reply.
Maya- Yeah, that's fine! Did you have a good day off?
Andy- Yes thanks. I went for a hike with Robert and Gabby, and we got ice cream. We've not long got home. What about you?
Maya- I went for a run this morning, but nothing else really. I'll see you tomorrow.
Andy- see you tomorrow.
When I looked up from my phone, I saw Robert standing in the doorway between the bedroom and the en-suite. He held his hand out in front of him, so I got up out of bed and took hold of it.
As he led me into the en-suite, I saw that he had run me a bath, which looked really warm and full of bubbles.
"Aww Robert, thank you, this is so cute," I said, and he smiled at me. "You joining me?" I asked.
"If you want me to," he answered.
"That's a yes then," I said, smirking at him. We both got undressed, and climbed into the bathtub. Robert sat down first, and then I sat down, leaning back against him.
"You okay?" He asked, somehow sensing that there was something on my mind.
"Yeah, I just... I don't know how to say this," I muttered. I knew now was the time, but I was still terrified that Robert won't feel the same way.
"Hey, it's okay, just say it," he said, playing with my hair slightly. He always knows how to calm me down, it's one of the many things I love about him.
"Um... I've been really scared to say this, because I don't know if you feel the same way or not, and I really hope you do. I- I love you Robert, I have for a long time now and I've never felt this way about anyone before. And I don't know if you feel the same way..." I blurted out. As I said the last part, Robert cut me off.
"I do feel the same. I love you too Andy, so much. And I was scared too, otherwise I would've told you sooner," Robert said, wrapping his arms around my waist.
I turned around on his lap to kiss him, and the kiss quickly deepened.
By the time we got out of the bath, it was late, so we decided to go to bed.
"Good night, I love you," I said, snuggling into Robert's arms.
"Good night, I love you too," Robert said.
That night, I fell asleep with a smile on my face, happier than I have been in a long time.
A/n: I can't wait for the new episode tonight! Also, it's the 50TH episode in total of Station 19! I hope there's lots of Surrera scenes :)
