Chapter 18- I Was The One Getting Embarrassed For The Girl

"Oh no problem dear. You came just a minute after Taylor came...with his girlfriend" Julie said unsurely when she said 'his girlfriend'. Wait did Julie just said his girlfriend? Well that happened fast. Really fast.

I just nodded my head and forced out a smile. I don't know why i'm not feeling to smile right now but I just don't. Jacob's hand placed it on the top of my hand and was rubbing his thumb in circles making me feel more relaxed.

"Excuse me I need to go and prepare our dinner so that we wouldn't starve here" Julie excused herself and walked into the kitchen where my mom was. Leaving me, Jacob, Kevin, Taylor, and his grilfriend.. 

"So you're Crystal?" the guy in forties asked and I Iooked at him.

"Yes, the one and only" I don't even know how I got some confidence but what my mind is telling me right now is to show Taylor that I've changed and that I could face new people without sweating from being so nervous.

Kevin nodded and stared at me for a long time. Okay now this is making me uncomfortable. I cleared my throat awkwardly trying to break the silence that was forming. What's with people and that they're silent right now?

"Julie was right, you are lovely" Kevin said and smiled at me. I let out a small cough feeling uncomfortable and awkward that he just called me lovely and I could feel my cheeks heating up. I seriously get really awkward and shy when people compliment me so it's better to not to compliment me or else I would say something awkward and stupid. The girl went to Taylor much closer than before and was holding him like Taylor would vanish any second now.

"Same to you Mr. Caniff. You still look hot" I said without thinking. Wait did I just called him hot? What? Ugh. Face palm. Double face palm. Triple face palm.

This is what i've been saying. I just said something awkward and stupid.

All of them laughed and I caught Taylor's lips twitched into a small smile and when he looked at me it felt like the time stopped for a second before I looked away and hid behind Jacob's shoulder who was chuckling.

"Oh you don't have to flatter me" Mr. Caniff said and chuckled while I just gave him a wide smile I was still embarrassed about it. Tell me I am over reacting, I. Don't. Care. It was just so embarrassing.

"Oh please Dad it's true though" the girl said.

I coughed so loud unintentionally when she said 'dad' and Jacob rubbed his hand behind his neck and I could even tell that Taylor was not expecting that and did not want that to happen that he kept on scratching his neck and kept on rubbing his face with his right hand and even let out a forced smile. And Mr. Caniff looked very shock too. Well we all wasn't expecting that. Calling Mr. Caniff 'dad' was too early I guess. I was the one getting embarrassed for the girl.

The girl just let out a small laugh as she could feel the awkward atmosphere that was thickening right now. Taylor cleared his throat.

"What brought you here dad?" Taylor asked and was obviously trying to clear the awkwardness in the air.

"I missed you son that is why I am here" Mr. Caniff said and straighten his coat.

"Tss. You never come home unless there is a serious matter going on in here and if I may recall there is nothing wrong with our company here and that everything is steady and alright" 

Don't Taylor miss his dad? If I were Taylor I would be so glad that my dad came home because when my dad went out he never came back.

Mr. Caniff just gave him a smile and turned to me ignoring Taylor.
