Subject: Being a Student is Stressful
Date: 7th February 2014Being a psychology student is stressful. Did I ever tell you I am studying to become a clinical psychologist? You were the inspiration for this career choice, so its all your fault I'm a stressed insomniac (joking - well, not really).
I wasn't expecting this degree to be quite so challenging, but I am plodding my way through it. I'm lucky to have a great teacher, and the help of fellow student, and now official boyfriend, Harry, on hand to help. I think the first year will be the hardest for me. I mean, I wasn't t expecting to go to university, never mind studying psychology! You well know that it was my dream from a very young age to be a receptionist. I have very fond memories of pre-school, and spending the entire playtime answering "calls" and scribbling down names and addresses. Do you remember that you very sweetly made me a little address book, filled with phone numbers of my favourite cartoon characters so I could phone them? I think I still have it somewhere. Man, I loved that little book! I used it all the time.
I'm sure it was quite a surprise for you, then, to discover that rather than follow my dreams I have decided on a life of study - something I've never excelled at. It was a shock to me too, I must admit. One morning, not long after you had left us, I was contemplating what I would do for work, etc, when suddenly the idea of becoming a psychologist popped into my mind. I scoffed at the thought, but I discussed it with Mum & Dad and they thought it was a jolly good idea! They thought that it would be a great way for me to help someone like you. The more I dwelt on the idea, the more I felt sure that it was the right decision and that you were guiding me to this particular path. So, although it's devilishly difficult, and I am in a constant state of panic, I am going to do it. I'm going to graduate university, and I'm going to be the best damn psychologist the world has ever seen. And I'm going to do it for you.
I hope you're okay.
Love, Beth x
