THE CHANCE ARAMINTA HAD BEEN WAITING FOR WAS FINALLY HERE. The chance to claim a victory against the Titans, and a chance to make the deaths of all of her comrades worth it--a chance to make the death of her family worth it. It was right here in front of her, just within reach of her fingertips. It felt as if nothing could stop her now.
Well. nothing could stop her except for the fact that Dot Pyxis had made a mistake. For some reason, he had put her on the "special squad", or whatever it was; the group of elite soldiers whose job was to protect Eren and get him to the boulder. Meanwhile, the rest of the cadets she had worked with, and even Garrison soldiers with far more experience than her would be working on clearing out Titans. Her comrades--her friends were down below, completely clueless as to what the plan was entailing.
She had finished in the top ten of her class--number six overall, so she knew she was a good soldier. So why was she doubting herself? Especially now? Maybe it wasn't so much as doubting herself as it was just nerves. This was the biggest responsibility she'd ever had handed to her, especially by a general. It was normal to be a little worried about his decision, right?
Araminta sighed, chewing her nail as she stood near their small group, gazing towards the interior of Wall Rose. As the sun had passed high noon, the light had shifted to a much warmer tone, lighting the fields of grass and crops up with a golden glow. It was beautiful, and so relaxing to look at. It reminded her of that night under the stars, the way it brought so much comfort and seemed to make everything around her melt away.
Like basically everything else in this world, her comfort was short lived. With Eren standing by his side, Pyxis had begun his dramatic speech all about their plan to retake Trost. Eren would transform with his special ability, and carry the boulder to block off the hole in the wall, yada yada yada, she'd heard it all before. She stood on the other edge of the wall, watching Pyxis and Eren while wringing her hands.
