Dancing with Deuc was fun. Before I had met him, I could barely dance except for doing the Macarena. But now I could waltz with him and his steps and posture seemed to be perfect even though he couldn’t see where he was going.
The waltz was nice, familiar now. I could do most of the steps, though not all were great or perfect. I was eager to learn something new but Deuc wouldn’t teach me to do the tango until I found my anchor. He had stuck to his word no matter how much I had tried to persuade him otherwise.
The song finished and we stopped dancing. I was no longer out of breath from dancing for a while, thanks to the stamina and fitness provided by being a werewolf.
I made myself a coffee and Deuc a cup of tea.
“I always like your cups of tea,” he said as he leaned against the doorframe. I smiled.
“You do?” I asked as I looked over at him. He nodded and my smiled widened. “I’m glad but I did learn from you.”
“That’s true, you did.”I laughed a little as I passed him his cup of tea. He sipped it.
“Lovely as always.”
“The tea?”
“Yes, but you as well.” My cheeks heated up. He was doing that a lot more lately, smooth flirting and compliments. I liked it but I wasn’t sure what had inspired it, maybe it was the wendigo incident. It had been colder over the last few days, November had brought colder weather with it. It was the perfect excuse to cuddle up with Deuc, not that I needed an excuse.
“I’m going to have a pack meeting tomorrow,” he said. I looked over at him as I sat down on the sofa next to him, my cup of coffee in hand.
“Why?”
“To make sure everyone is alright. Morell has offered some words of support and advice for them, should they still have any problems over the wendigo incident,” Deuc said. I smiled, he truly did care about his pack. After drinking more of my coffee, I set it on the table and began snuggling up to him. He smiled and wrapped his arm around me. Deuc wore one of his softest sweaters. It was made from wool and was closer to resting my head on a pillow than anything else.
“Do you think I’ll find my anchor soon?” I asked. Deuc looked at me and I looked up to see him nod.
“You will find it soon, I know you will,” he said. It didn’t instill much confidence in me, since most werewolves took only a few months to find their anchor.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
I shrugged. “Having faith in me, I suppose.” Maybe I would find my anchor soon. I hoped I would, I was dreading the full moon already and it was two weeks away.
“I’ll always have faith in you, my love.”
“I’ll remember that, mon chéri.”It was quiet for a moment. The TV wasn’t on and we weren’t playing any music either.
I had to say it now, otherwise I would still be waiting for the ‘right time’.
“I love you.”
Deuc looked at me, his eyes glowing red.
“I do,” I said again. “I love you.” He smiled and leaned in to kiss me, though part of me was a little disappointed that he hadn’t said anything in response. The disappointment was quickly forgotten as the kiss deepened but eventually we both pulled away.It had only been a few months, but it had felt like so much longer. I wished it had been so much longer. If I had met him years ago, I would have likely been happier.
“You are amazing,” he whispered. We were so close that our breath intermingled. “And beautiful, and I am so glad I’ve met you.”
“So am I,” I said, a smile spreading across my face. Then I kissed him and he didn’t hesitate to kiss back. He pulled me closer and I giggled as we pulled away from each other. I was practically sitting in his lap. I shifted so I was more comfortable, and checked that Deuc didn’t mind.“It’s weird how Gerard has caused so much pain,” I said. Deuc frowned a little. “But he’s accidentally created so much joy. I’m happy with you, and the pack and even Briar.” Even Tasha was being nicer lately. And it was fun spending time with Tamika and Charles. I loved the dancing and listening to music, and the time I could spend writing because Deuc was graciously supporting me. He loved my writing too, and I loved reading it to him.
I rested my head on his shoulder but still looked at him.
“Do you want to go upstairs?” I asked as I tried to refrain from yawning.
“To sleep?” he asked.
“Hmm, probably for the best,” I said after yawning. “After cuddling perhaps?” I smiled and he just chuckled.
“Of course, it sounds lovely.”
