RAELYNN POV
The coffee in my hands was cold now. I had made Lena and Grace breakfast but they weren't up yet. I couldn't sleep last night because all I kept thinking about was her. She was in my bed right down the hall. I spent the night on the couch, wishing I was next to her. But she was drunk when she called, so the possibility of her regretting calling me was high. I couldn't say no when she asked to come with me, I had been waiting for her for over a month. Yet, I couldn't find it in myself to be happy.
"Good morning." I looked up to see Lena coming in with Grace behind her.
"Good morning." Grace mumbled, giving a shy smile.
"Dude, you made breakfast, awesome. Usually I have to beg you to cook for me." Lena said as she sat and started shoving food into her mouth. "Was this because of Grace?" She asked after swallowing her food.
Can I punch her? I really want to punch her.
"Shut it, kid." I gritted out.
Grace cleared her throat awkwardly. "I uh, I should go." She moved from one foot to the other.
"Eat first." I told her. "Please." I added when I remembered she didn't like being told what to do.
She smiled slightly then sat down. "Thanks, this looks good."
"Yeah, did you get the pills I left you?" I took a sip of my cold coffee, grimacing afterwards. I poured it out and made another.
"Yes, thanks for that too." She smiled. "Aren't you eating?"
I only made enough for both of them. I hadn't eaten a decent meal since she left, and just because she was here now didn't mean I was hurting anyless.
"I'm good with coffee." I offered her a smile, which felt more like a grimace.
"She hasn't-"
"You will shut your mouth if you want to keep that car." I threatened Lena.
She shut her mouth and continued eating. I sat there quietly as they had their breakfast. Some small conversation passing between them. I would've walked out the kitchen but I didn't want to risk it with Lena. After breakfast Lena left to her room, leaving me alone with Grace.
"Where's Nala?" Grace asked in a quiet voice.
Keeping my eyes off of her as I cleared their dishes, I answered. "With my mom and brother."
"How come?" I noticed her frown when I glanced at her briefly.
She wouldn't stop howling after you stopped coming over...
"I've been busy and couldn't spend enough time with her. For walks and everything." I replied, washing the dishes.
It was silent and I was too afraid to break it. She was acting like nothing happened and I couldn't figure out what she was thinking. I didn't want her to say she only called because she was drunk.
"I'm sorry if I bothered you last night." She said breaking the silence.
I puffed out my cheeks and turned around. "It's fine."
She eyed me as she sat. "How have you been?"
"Fine, you?"
I saw her eyes flickered around my face before answering. "I'm alright. Work's been busy and Lena's doing great at her job." Her smile brightened when she mentioned the girl. "You're doing a good job with her."
