Jin remembers the day he lost his job as the cook in Mr Yong's place. He had been jobless and wandering around the streets looking for a place to work. Finding no other option, he had very hesitatingly, decided to write a letter to the Royal Palace. He didn't have many qualifications to boast of but he knew that his work ethic was strong enough for him to land a job at least as a gardener in the palace. He had heard that even the gardeners got good enough money to live their whole life off happily.
Taking a good quality sheet of paper, he started to draft his letter. He didn't have a phone yet and he wasn't going to worry his brother about a job by asking him for his own phone. Therefore he wrote the letter instead of typing in a mail like most others did.
Jin mentioned how he was looking for a job and would be willing to do anything. Then he signed it off, added a return address and mailed it to the Royal Letter Order.
It was before he landed a job at the bakery.
And Jin certainly hadn't expected a reply.
Hundreds of people applied for a job at the palace- either for the money or for the fame of getting to work for the royal family.
Out of all these people, why would Jin get selected?
He had barely even given information about himself in the letter and it was absolutely absurd that he got a reply within three days.
"Hyung? What is it?" Jungkook asks, peeping over Jin's shoulder. Seeing the symbol of the crown against a maroon backdrop, he gasps. "Is that a letter from the royal palace? What did we do? Are we in trouble? Did I do something? I promise you hyung, I didn't mean to steal the chips from that old uncle yesterday- he was being mean to the poor neighbourhood children and I thought stealing the chips would teach him a lesson! And I-".
"Jungkook, dear. Shut up, will you?" Jin's mother shushes the boy who was determined that he was going to land his family to jail for stealing a pack of chips. "Firstly, stop overthinking and secondly, no matter how rude a person- stealing isn't the way to teach anyone a lesson. He himself could have been poor, you know? And Jin? What is the letter about?"
Jin, whose voice had gone dry just at the imagination of what could be inside the letter, shrugs his shoulder as casually as possible and slowly starts to open the letter.
It's been typed.
Well, of course the royal palace could afford a computer. Jin wouldn't be surprised if even the workers had an Apple device gifted to them for their service.
Dear Kim Seokjin,
I am glad to know you are interested for a job at the Royal Palace. Many people are but I found your letter to be honest, unlike others which are superficial and tend to exaggerate facts just to get a job.
However, I should warn you that having a job at the palace comes at its own conditions. Depending on the job- you don't get too many holidays, confidentiality is important and working hard and diligently is mandatory.
If you think you will be able to handle it, I would request you to join us in an official interview where I can ask you a few questions and assess you. From there we will see how it goes.
As we cannot share the location of our actual royal palace, we would like to meet you at the public castle- the office building beside it. Kindly be on time, at 10:30 am on Wednesday. Later than that and the interview won't be accepted.
Regards;
Working Manager and Advisor- Jung Hoseok,
The Royal Castle
