Jin

The two gossiping maids stop their conversation and stare at Jin who popped in between them out of nowhere.

They seem to be surprised for a second before the taller one narrows her eyes. "Who are you?"

"He is handsome". The other one mutters while looking Jin up and down.

Jin himself is getting nervous as he didn't intend to eavesdrop on the girls' conversation- it just happened and now he was caught. Was he supposed to just remain quiet?

Seeing the boy's silence, the taller one says- "Never seen you before. Wait...gosh", The girl's eyes dramatically widen. "You are the prince's new boy to-".

"The prince's new caretaker". A new, gentle voice adds in from behind Jin and that's when he realised there was another person present with them- the one who had pushed Jin which led him to getting scrutinised by two gossiping maids.

The girl behind him is around his age, if not an year or two older. She has milky white skin and round eyes which are now sternly set upon the girls that were talking to Jin- however, they no longer had the questioning attitude.

"He must be Kim Seokjin, our prince's new caretaker". The girl switches her eyes to Jin. "Aren't you?"

Jin could only nod in response. The girl hums and looks towards the maids. She herself is wearing the same uniform the other's are wearing, still the maids look a bit scared around her. She must have high authority.

"Now, if you both are done with your gossip and useless chatter, go have your dinner quickly- the library is yet to be dusted and since you both seem to have no work to do and no hurry either, you can do it before the prince goes there after his dinner".

The two maids only shake their head in a yes and turn around the corner towards, what Jin assumes, must be the kitchen and dining area for all the staff people.

The girl behind him smiles and holds out a hand- her front two teeth are slightly larger than the other two, again reminding Jin of his brother. "Welcome to the castle, Jin. I am Nayeon".

Jin takes her hand politely and smiles back. "Nice to meet you, Nayeon".

Nayeon takes back her hand. "Don't mind them- the maids. Most of the people you see inside places of high authority may have a good position and pay but an equally loud mouth which know nothing but to spread rumours and gossip. Did you hear anything from them?"

He figures he could tell her that he did hear something about the prince going rough on someone called Liz and how he used to go rough on everyone who angered him- except Jin didn't know what going rough meant and didn't deem it important enough to tell Nayeon anyway. So, he shakes his head in a no.

"That's good. Close your ears to most of the words you hear. The prince is a...good person. I know. Have been seeing him ever since I was a little girl". She motions towards the kitchen and starts walking, Jin follows. "My mother is the queen's caretaker, in the other palace".

So that's where the air of importance came from.

"Did you get a chance to meet the prince yet?" Nayeon asks as they enter the kitchen.

The large room which Jin can only describe as two sizes big his entire apartment- is a busy place.

There are some people dressed as chefs, cooking something and shouting orders. There is the smell of oil and fish and fried vegetables- giving a nice smell to the place, making Jin feel hungry immediately. He hadn't had lunch as he had slept off and though he was used to skipping meals, there was something different in having the first meal inside a palace.

There is a long table in the side of the room where other people dressed as the staff are sitting and having their food while some have resorted to standing and eating or sitting on the floor due to lack of space.

"Yes, I did". Jin answers, focus back on Nayeon.

Nayeon walks towards the table and immediately a spot clears up towards the front. She takes a seat and motions Jin to sit in front of her which he does.

There are stacks of round plastic plates as well as different dishes laid out throughout the table- starting from bowls of soup to white sauced pasta and a pudding.

Jin recieves a plate from Nayeon and he takes it as a cue to load it with food. "Can I-", he pauses with his hand on a bowl of soup. "Take how many ever serves I want?"

Nayeon chuckles. "Of course you can. Privileges of working in a castle". She gives a wink and Jin can only smile a little before he fills his plate completely.

He had a large appetite and if the rules said he could eat how much ever he wanted to, then he shall. He needed to eat well to work properly.

"So, how was it?" Nayeon asks as she takes a bite from her garlic bread. "Meeting the prince".

Embarrassing. Unexpected. Rude. Awkward. Left-him-speechless.

"It was...okay, I mean, it was barely for a minute or so. Hoseok was giving me a tour of the place then".

"Oh, I hope you both get along. Taehyung hasn't had a good...history with his previous caretakers but Hoseok trusts you". Nayeon is looking at Jin in a way which tells him that she trusts him too. "Plus, I am always here if you need help. I mostly do the practical supervision of the work while Chanyeol does the boring things".

Jin laughs and takes a spoon of his salad. The food was good. The right amount of salt and everything. He was glad that the workers were treated well here.

He wondered about his mom and Jungkook, who would probably be eating last night's leftovers and the hunger immediately leaves him, guilt taking in place.

Here he was eating wonderful food and having so many serves of it while Jungkook- whose appetite rivals his own, must be eating cold noodles from the previous night.

He continues staring at the plate of his food and twirling the spoon with his fingers.

Suddenly, the murmurs and loud noises of the kitchen stop, like a song suddenly getting finished and the entire concert hall being silent- absorbing the song.

Everyone's heads are turned towards the kitchen's hallway turn, Nayeon's too, which makes Jin turn as well.

There the prince is standing in his regal attire, back straight, veiny arms crossed and a black, piercing gaze directed towards Jin himself.

The eyes go towards Jin's filled plate and an arched eyebrow raises up.

"Enjoying the meal, are we?"
