After the mission, five of them returned to the Institute, whereas Jace opted for following the redhead. Cassie and Izzy were staring down at her resting frame, the latter leaning a lot closer to her face.
"Izzy you're going to scare her if she wakes up," Cassie smirked at the brunette. Isabelle rolled her eyes and shrugged.
"I'm just taking a loo—" The redhead gasped and shot up, hitting Isabelle with her head. Cassiopeia snorted. "Ow."
"Wait, I don't know you." The redhead glanced from Isabelle to Cassie. "Either of you."
"I'm Isabelle."
"Cassie."
"I've never seen Jace so curious about a mundane..." Isabelle commented.
"Or distracted," Cassie added.
"As you saw earlier, distractions are dangerous in our line of work," Reggie remarked as he walked into the room, handing a bottle of water to his sister. "Here you go."
"Thanks." She mumbled lightly and unscrewed the cap, taking a gulp quickly after.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." The redhead muttered. "Who's Jace?"
"You really don't know much, do you?" Isabelle asked her.
"All I know is some psychos took my mother, and now you people have taken me."
Cassiopeia chuckled. "And by taken I assume you mean saved your life?"
Alec and Jace walked into the room. The Lightwood boy instantly gravitating toward the blonde girl's side. "A mundane shouldn't even be here."
"Where is here exactly?"
The two ignored her. "She's not a mundane, Alec."
"How do you know that?"
"Because the seraph blade lit up when she touched it."
Cassie tilted her head, glancing at the girl's neck. "She's got a rune, too." Alec turned to look at her. "If she was a mundane, she would be six feet under by now."
Jace pointed to Cassie in agreement.
Alec sent her a look. "Cass—" He sighed, he could never make himself argue with her. She made him weak.
Jace turned to Izzy. "Look, Isabelle, can you..." The Lightwood girl stood up from the bed, giving Jace her spot. "I'm Jace Wayland."
"I'm—""Clary Fray," Jace interrupted her. "We know who you are."
"Am I the only one who finds this unusual?"
"You find everything unusual, Alec." Jace retorted.
"Leave him alone, Jace." Cassie snapped at the blond.
"It's okay, Cass." He reassured her. "I'll have to—"
"Report this to the Clave," Reggie groaned. "We know all about your Institute-wide ban on fun."
"You know what, Alec?" Jace spoke. "Dial it down a notch."
Isabelle chuckled. "My brother doesn't have a dial." The other five people in the room turned to look at the brunette. "I love you, Alec, but you have a switch that's always on."
"I love you, too." He turned back to Clary. "But this—"
"Hey, you know what?" Jace interrupted him. "Give me a minute." None of them showed any signs of moving. "Here's a word you never hear me say. Please?"
