"You saved my life Bucky."

Tossing and turning seemed to become the new normal, never being able to fully relax into your bed. The soft sounds of the city flooded through the window only making it more difficult to shut the world out. You huffed covering your arms over your face quickly becoming frustrated, you grabbed your phone off the nightstand to read the time, quickly having to squint your eyes to adjust to the brightness. 2:30 AM, "great" you muttered to your self, pulling the sheets and blankets off before heading to the closet. There was only one place you could go to calm your mind if you couldn't sleep, the roof.

Your apartment wasn't anything special considering living in New York City was already breaking the bank. But the roof had a magnificent view of the twinkling lights of the city. It felt peaceful seeing the hustle of the city at night, it helped you to remember that you are never alone, even when you feel like you are. Depression was a real bitch let me tell you. Your work sometimes makes it even harder, being a trauma therapist, you have learned so much about your own struggles. You have always had a passion to help people because well sometimes you didn't know how to help yourself. Tonight was one of those nights that you felt especially hopeless, you thought, what good were you to others if you couldn't help yourself?

You traded your oversized t-shirt for a pair of fabric shorts and an oversized NYU hoodie. You stepped into your slippers before grabbing your keys and heading to the elevator. You could hear the quiet hums of your neighbors TV playing as you walked through the hallway. Once you reached the roof you opened the door and instantly felt the night breeze on your skin. You closed your eyes and let out a deep breath you didn't realize you were holding in, fresh air really did work wonders. You started to head towards the railing like you normally do when you stopped in your tracks at the sight of a silhouette already standing by the edge. In all your times of coming to your personal sanctuary, no one else had ever been up here. You thought about turning around considering the figure looked like a man and you were a woman living by herself, it was basic red flags.

You started to step back when he turned towards you, stopping you in your place. At first you just stared at each other not saying a word. "um, hi" You squeaked out in an attempt to break the silence. He turned back towards the bright skyline, "beautiful isn't it?" His voice was like honey and you just wanted to hear him speak again. You softly stepped towards the railing keeping your distance as you crossed your elbows over the cold metal. "Yeah, it really is. I love coming up here." You responded keeping your eyes in front of you. You wanted to look at him and put a face to the angelic voice but you were terribly nervous, you mustered up enough courage to put your hand out, "I'm Y/N" He looked to you and you had to do everything in your power not to gasp out loud.

He was simply breathtaking. He had blue eyes but not ordinary like yours, his were a lighter color that the city lights illuminated. He had shiny brown hair and some stubble on his face. Aside from his gorgeous looks, he had deep bags under his eyes telling you that he had similar sleeping problems. He hesitated but rose his hand up to shake yours, "I'm James, but everyone calls me Bucky." You both gave a small smile before averting your eyes. "Well Bucky, what brings you out here? Are you okay?"

He furrowed his eyebrows before letting out a small laugh, "I'm a complete stranger on the rooftop of our apartment and you're asking if I'm okay?" You were thanking your lucky stars it was dark out and he hopefully couldn't see the blush rising on your cheeks. "um y-yeah I guess that is kind of a weird question... thats the therapist in me, sorry." You laughed back. "Can't sleep, you?" He responded, "Same, I always come out here, it's the only thing that seems to calm my mind." You could see him nod his head out of the corner of your eye. "Yeah I've seen you out here a lot." You turned your head to him giving him a confused look, "now you're the one saying weird things." You pointed out.
