Confession

"Alright idiots, does everyone know their job?" Tony stated as he started landing the Quinjet. Now that Bucky had joined the team, the Avengers had many missions making sure every last HYDRA base was taken down. He had a lot of knowledge to share about the locations and insider information. You were finishing up attaching the back up guns into your thigh holster when you felt Bucky's gaze on you. You tried your best not to smile, rather you decided to speak up. "Nervous Barnes?" You still didn't look at him as you pulled your hair into a ponytail.

"Ugh please of course I'm not." But it was obvious these places brought back the worst memories, who could blame him for being nervous. "Hey, it'll be okay, I'll save your ass if anything goes wrong." You send him a wink as you walked towards the exit ready to fight. "We'll see about that sweetheart." He nudged your elbow standing next to you. You had taken a liking to the winter soldier, behind all that hurt and pain was a charming and funny guy. The two of you had grown a lot closer these past few months, he was your best friend. But you knew you had to keep it strictly professional and you figured there was no way he would ever see you as more than a friend.

"Alright kids... party time." Tony opened the hatch and you all rushed out knowing what your positions were. Tony and Thor were up above doing recon of the building. Nat and Wanda were taking care of the guards with mind control and of course punches. Clint was perched up above trying to keep away any sneak attacks. Hulk was.. well you know, smashing. You and Bucky were in charge of actually going into the building and basically destroying anything that still dealt with HYDRA.

"Recognize anything?" You whispered as you both stealthily walked through the hallway taking out any enemies. "Yeah the main room is this way." He pointed with his gun and you followed close behind. The alarms had already started going, turning the main lights off and replacing them with flashing red ones, making it harder to see everything. Thankfully you had the super soldier by your side. You reached the door and you both leaned your backs against the wall on opposite sides. Bucky turned his head towards you and held up one finger, then two, then three, and you both busted open the door taking out two guards.

You rushed over to the computer ready to delete anything and everything. You held your hand up to your ear piece to speak to the team "Me and Barnes are in. Wiping the computer now." You started typing away as Bucky kept close watch on the door. "Hurry up we don't have all day." You rolled your eyes at Clint's humor. "I should be done shortly, don't let anyone kill us please."

You finished up wiping the hard drive and the back up hard drive. "Okay Buck I think I'm done." He peeked over your shoulder to check, "alright lets get the hell out of here this place gives me the creeps." You laughed at him before heading for the door first, as soon as you started to open it, it was quickly swung open knocking you right in the face and onto the floor. "Y/N!" Bucky screamed before starting to fight off the men who were quickly advancing on him. Your vision was blurry and you reached your hand up to your head feeling the blood dripping down your forehead.

You could hear the grunts of Bucky and the other men he was doing his best to fight. You sat up while reaching for your gun from its holster, the adrenaline allowing you to stand up and fight. Bucky had knocked out one guard but was still fighting two others. You snuck up on one of them jumping onto his back to pull him down. He quickly scrambled up and was now above you hands around your neck. You grabbed one of the gadgets Nat gave you and slapped it on his back instantly shocking him into unconsciousness.

You stood up and the events that followed happened so fast. The guard had raised his gun up to Bucky, who used his arm to push the guards arm to the side, which then left the gun pointing at you. He pulled the trigger shooting you in the abdomen. You felt nothing but shock as your clutched your stomach feeling the air leaving your body. "NO!" Bucky screamed before knocking out the final man.

He rushed over to your side immediately to examine the wound. "B-buck it, it hurts." You looked at each other with wild eyes. "No, no, you're not dying here, you're fine." He swopped you up in one quick motion kicking the door open and running out of the building. You were starting to feel woozy as you heard him alerting the team. Was this really the end? You didn't want to die, and all you could think about was that you never told him how you felt. "James, I-I need to tell you s-something." You choked out, "No Y/N save your breath and tell me later."

He was still running as you clutched onto his shoulders for dear life when you finally felt the cool air hit your body letting you know you were outside again. "No, I-I need to t-tell you now. You mean s-so much to me." Your eyelids were now closing and you had never felt so tired in your life. "No no no Y/N stay with me I can't lose you! I- I love you!!" You were shocked at what you heard but when you tried to speak you couldn't. Your body was giving in.

You slowly fluttered your eyes open, noticing a bright light above, your first thought was that you were dead. But then you noticed you were in a bed? A hospital bed, you could now see the IV in your right arm. You looked over to your left arm to see someone holding your hand. Their head hung low, their hair tickling your forearm. You gave the hand a gentle squeeze, immediately causing Bucky to snap his head up, bloodshot and puffy eyes. "Hey soldier." You smirked.

He laughed, "oh my god you're okay." He let out a sigh of relief and stood over you pushing the hair from your face. "I'm not letting you get rid of me that easily." You smiled. "Y/N, I don't know what you remember or heard, but it shouldn't have taken me this long to confess how I feel about you. You have made my life so much better the moment you walked into it. You push my buttons and annoy the crap out of me but no one makes me happier." You both laughed and you felt tears threaten to spill from your eyes. "I love you Y/N, it's okay if you don't feel the same but I am so sorry it took a near death experience to tell you that."

You reached your hand up to cup his cheek and he leaned his head into your hand, placing his hand over yours. "I love you James Barnes. You're one annoying old man but no one makes me happier either." He had the biggest smile on his face as he leaned his head down and placed a sweet kiss on your forehead.

"SHE'S ALIVE!" You hear someone yell and you instantly knew it was Tony, everyone else came slowly creeping in giving you smiles and hugs. "We are so happy you're okay Y/N, you did some great work out there." Steve complimented and everyone agreed.

"Couldn't have made it without him." You looked up to Bucky who was still glued to your side holding your hand. "Guess I saved your ass this time huh?" He gave you a lopsided smirk, "don't get cocky on me now." You threatened and scooted over patting the bed for him to sit next to you.

You spent the rest of the day resting as the team came and went checking on you, but Bucky never left your side. You rested on his side as he played with your hair and peppered your face and lips with sweet kisses. "Thanks for saving my life, but if you tell anyone I said that I will kill you myself." You looked up to him, "Wouldn't dream of it doll."
