~ barry allen ~

A few weeks went by, and I was really getting to know Sara. She was a very nice girl, and had a lot to say, and also a lot to learn. She was overall just... fascinating. I couldn't explain why I felt so much care for her, but maybe it's because she carries elements of Nora.

The Nora I knew.

Meta-related business has still been relatively quiet, but our newest Flash member, Bill Donner, has been very helpful. We've gotten a strange amount of young metas recently, and Donner knows almost too much about meta biology. I don't know where he got all this knowledge, but he obviously has done a lot of research.

"Meta genetics work almost just like regular genetics. If a parent has a meta power, most likely the kid will have the same one." Donner was explaining as we walked into CoJitters.

"But, what about a situation like DeVoe? He had multiple meta genes, could that be possible? They'd have to be-" I started.

"Injected, yes. But, as far as I know, that type of technology-"

"Hasn't been invented yet."

"Right. And also, theoretically, if the meta power that was injected didn't have something to do with the byproduct of the original meta power, then it would be unsafe." He paused.

"Theoretically. I'm gonna head to the bathroom real quick."

I nodded, watching him go as I stepped up to the counter.

I looked up to see a familiar face smiling at me.

"Mr. Allen! Hi! The usual?" I smiled, starting to ring him up before he stopped me.

"Yeah, but I have a friend in the bathroom, he'll be right out. I'm paying for him, so I need him here." He explained.

"Oh, alright. Where's Iris?"

"Working on an article. Hey, have you gotten any info about a foster family yet?"

"Uh, no, not yet, I'm still in the group home, but it's fine." I turned around to wipe down the counter.

Technically, I wasn't lying. I was in a group home at the moment, but I didn't spend too much time there, only to sleep and eat, occasionally. I wasn't really focused on finding a home right now, I had more important things to do.

"Oh, good you're back. Sara, this is my friend, Dr. Donner."

I froze.

(oh god why are you here what are you doing here why are you doing this to me oh god)

I turned around. Slowly.

(he found me.)

A pair of very familiar, cold blue eyes were looking at me. They seemed to pierce right through my soul.

"I need another crayon." I said from the floor. "My red one ran out."

"Do I even have to guess why your red crayon wore out?" Donner crossed his arms. "This is, what, the third time? This month?"

I shrugged, picking up the yellow crayon and furiously scribbling.

Donner sighed, moving to his workstation. "You can have a red crayon after your testing today. And no more drawings of The Flash."

"Why?"

"Because, The Flash isn't real-"

"He is real, and he's going to get me out of here-"

"AND he's planting ideas in your head. You're not leaving here anytime soon. I should have never gotten you that comic." He started to move towards the worn-down book on the concrete floor, but I sped over and grabbed it.

"You know, one of these days, they're gonna find out what you're doing to me. What they're doing to all of us."

Donner chuckled. "Who's 'they'?"

"I-I don't know, but they-"

"See?! You may be super-intelligent, but you know NOTHING about the real world. I only taught you how to draw last week, and you can only draw some stupid, no-good, happy-go-lucky superhero. Well, guess what? Superheroes. Don't. Exist." Donner walked over so we were face to face, and he towered over me.

"You have a gift. And I have a job to make you stronger. The only way your gift can be used is to hurt people. You're not some hero that's gonna 'save the day', you are a weapon."

I started to cry, turning away and back to my drawing.

"Sara."

"Sara?" Barry asked.

"Oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry, I spaced out." I mustered a smile.

"Oh, that's okay, Donner was just explaining how you used to intern for him."

Yeah, some internship.

"Yeah... I did. What can I get you?" I asked, trying to avoid eye contact.

"Just a black coffee. Please." Donner didn't break his stare.

"Coming right up." It took all of my energy not to scream or break down.

Thank God I'm almost done with my shift.
