I was tired. So very tired. Loop after loop. Not only was it bad enough that I couldn't go into the present without disintegrating into ashes but I couldn't even settle down in one place.First, there was the loop in Luxembourg, in a little town called Bettembourg. The house there had been so lovely, made of carved wood, each wooden shingle delicately placed on the roof. Fresh flowers on windowsills and the prettiest lavender curtains. It had been on a beautiful field with grazing cows in the distance, and every day we'd have picnics. I still remembered my bedroom with cream-colored walls and a large oak closet. Above the bed a painting of the seaside.
The girl, Aurelie, I'd shared that room with had left before I had. The rest of us had not known much of where she was going, merely that she had a mission. Many years after she left I found out she'd gone to a loop in Buenos Aires. Aurelie's peculiarity had been very beautiful, she could grab light from the air as though they were tufts of clouds.
Eventually, I left that loop after my ymbryne told me that a loop up in Russia would be able to analyze and understand my peculiarity much better.
So I went, traveling through the past, as I was loop bound, to a town called Tyumen. Hardly a town, more of a settlement in the snow. A little distance away had been the loop. In it were five very bright children and their ymbryne. They examined and discussed my peculiarity until they came to a decision of it being an extra peculiar peculiarity.
The house there had been made of rock with many fireplaces inside to keep us warm from the cold Russian climate. Every day we would go and chop trees for the fire that we lit at night. It had been small but cozy and the children there had been very fun.
The loop had been very remarkable because just before every reset a fire would burn throughout the settlement. It would spread from home to home but just before it could reach ours the changeover happened and it was the night before again.
That loop had been one of my favorites but again I left.
Word had reached our little town in Russia of one of the oldest and wisest ymbryne's, Miss Avocet. My ymbryne made me leave immediately knowing she would be able to train me to use my peculiarity properly. And so once again I traveled through the past all the way to Derbyshire, England.
There Miss Avocet trained me for years. Together wit her, I learned how to control my abilities as well as discovering what more I could do. Three times a week we'd practice while the rest of the time I would live my life in the loop. The loop repeated on Saint Swithin's day so there would always be lovely summer sunshine to sit in.
However, once more time came for me to leave.
Miss Avocet approached me mere days ago that although she loved having me in her loop she knew that to me it simply seemed like a place I had to train in. She was right of course, it felt like a school to me and that one day I would graduate and leave. After talking for a bit, Miss Avocet offered me to move to a nearby loop, where I could settle and hopefully not have to move again. I agreed although I would miss her terribly as well as the other children there.
My bags were packed and after hugging everyone there with vague promises to visit, I left.
This time I was to travel through the present, something I'd never done before. No one could accompany them as they would age forward by the time they got back to the loop. Plus everyone there was trapped in the year 1867 while I was trapped in 1945 from my first loop.
The trip was very quick compared to the ones I'd taken before. I merely took a train to Wales and boarded a ferry there. In less than six hours, I had arrived at the island. Sparsely populated with people but with many, many sheep.
A quick walk across the island, following the directions Miss Avocet had given me and I was there.
I was here.
At the entrance of a hole of sorts. She had told me to go inside and the changeover would happen.
The floor was very muddy and my modern-day shoes were covered in dirt immediately. The steady dripping of water echoed around me as everything was dark and I reached the end of the tunnel room.
And then it happened.
The changeover.
A rush of wind.
I felt lightheaded but I steadied myself on the cavern wall which I had to almost crawl to not hit my head.
Suddenly the feeling of anxiousness was replaced by excitement. New people to meet.
I crawled out of the claustrophobic tunnel and arrived on a sunny late summer day.
September 3rd, 1940.
A short walk and I saw the house Miss Avocet had told me about in the distance. It was just as beautiful as the photos she had shown me. An old Victorian house made of brick surrounded by tall topiary bushes sculpted to be people and animals.
My heartbeat faster in my chest and I walked up the stairs to the door and...
Knock, knock.
I heard the scurrying of footsteps as several seconds passed and finally, the door opened.
In front of me stood a tall woman with sharp cheekbones and raven black hair. Her expression was strict but very welcoming. She wore a long dark dress with a high collar.
As she saw me she gave me a warm smile and said, "June Myristica, I've been expecting you."
