*Toby's P.O.V*
How? How in God's name could Jack do this to me? One of his best friends even! I specifically told him to not upload that video and what did he do? He freaking uploaded it!
Toby let out a loud frustrated sigh and turned back into the room, leaving a still frozen Katie in place. Running his fingers through his hair, he slightly tugged at his strands of hair, deep in thought.
What was going to happen now? Reporters? Interviewers? His life now dooming itself to an endless tragedy now that Jack uploaded a single video. One click of a button did this. Ruined Toby's life.
Toby closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly and reopening them the second he finished. "It'll be fine..." He mumbled to himself, trying to reassure his mind and body that everything will be okay; even though it won't.
After being paralyzed by this newfound information, Kaitlin eventually stepped back from the computer screen in complete horror; the room gradually cooling to a level that seeing your own breath could give you the chills.
The man swiftly turned around and faced Kaitlin's back, completely forgetting that she was still present in the room and in utter shock. He walked up behind her and leaned a bit to his left to gaze at her pale crystal face.
"Katie?" he asked in a soft voice, careful not to startle her and trying to let her know he was present also.
The spirit never moved or gave even a sign that her thoughts themselves were even present within the room. A blank stare was just fixed on the headline, plastered across the bright screen that seemed to be dimming from being inactive.
Toby took a small step around her, keeping his own eyes on her with caution while he slowly brought a hand towards the power button of the computer to shut it down and hopefully bring Kaitlin from out of her stupor.
Again, Kaitlin showed no signs of movement while he did so and soon enough the computer shut down with the click of a button, just as much as it took for Jack to upload that video.
Toby regained hours composure and stood right in front of Kaitlin, staring into her soulless eyes and hoping to see at least one sign that she was currently with him in the room. Nothing came to him and he felt his heart drop, feeling as if he caused all this and now that it was his responsibility to fix it.
He gently brought up a hand to the spirit's face and cupped her cheek, not shifting away his gaze or showing any sign of weariness. He needed Kaitlin to know, understand, that it will be okay and that he will fix this, but without her even showing a sign she was with him, he could do nothing.
Toby gulped and took in a small breath. "Katie, listen to me. Don't think about the headline, focus on me and my voice. Okay?" he paused for a moment, still not receiving a sign from her, but onward he continued. "I want you to know that I will fix this. That none of this could have been your fault or your doing. Jack didn't listen to me and...and now I have a mess to clean. A major one at that. Just know, that there is and will be nothing for you to fear of and I can't bear thinking of you putting yourself through self-blame and hatred. I will fix this, Kaitlin Moore. For you." Toby ended on a quiet note.
The whole time Toby was talking, he kept searching her eyes to see if she was actually listening to his words, but yet again, there was nothing. Not even a feeling to see or comprehend. Just absolutely nothing.
Toby brought down his hand. He could still feel the weight of her cheek in his palm and his hands tickled with a sort of coolness. He looked at her one more time before walking around Kaitlin and heading to the stairs - mind buzzing with thoughts on how to fix this problem.
As he took the first couple of steps upwards, he looked at Katie again once more between the corner of the step and the corner of the ceiling where they meet. His heart thumped against his chest as he watched the motionless transparent girl.
After collecting his thoughts as much as he could before he let the words slip through his mouth. "I will do this for you...I love you.." And then he continued his trek upwards.
