"SETTLE DOWN, SETTLE DOWN." MISS PEREGRINES VOICE BOOMED in the dining room as the pair entered. "Sit wherever you'd like."
"Hello, Lina." A slowly articulated voice added, leading the girls voice to look at a small sized boy in front of her. He seemed to be 80 & 16 all at once, he had boyish features but held himself and talked as if he was so much older. "I am Horace, pleasure to meet you."
"It's great meeting you as well, Horace." Lina smiled kindly and glanced around the room awkwardly for a few moments. She certainly didn't want to sit next to Enoch, but luckily both seats next to him were taken. Maybe she could sit by....
"Sit by me, Lina!" Fiona exclaimed and patted the empty seat next to her. Lina silently thanked her and sat down, grateful she didn't have to stand awkwardly. Hugh sat next to Fiona, Miss Peregrine as the head of the table on the right of Lina, and Enoch right across from her.
"Thank you," Lina leaned in and murmured in Fionas ear. "I was worried that I would stand there awkwardly for ages."
Fiona chuckled and nodded. "Any of us would've wanted you to sit by us."
"I wouldn't have." Enoch grumbled causing Linas eyes to shoot forward.
"Well I would have." Millard shot back at Enoch earning himself a glare.
"Thanks Millard, I appreciate it." Though Lina couldn't see, Millard nodded back with a small tinge of pink on his cheeks. Lina started to eat the mouthwatering ham and salads laid out in front of her. It had nearly been a whole day since she last ate, and her appetite had grown quite large.
Lina glanced forward to see Claire refraining from digging into her meal. She frowned. "What's the matter, Claire?"
Claire shyly looked down and shrugged.
"She's scared to eat in front of you." Emma remarked and assuringly patted Claire on the back. Lina furrowed her brows.
"Don't be! By all means," Lina grabbed a piece of ham and stuffed it in her face to emphasize her point. "Dig in." She mumbled with a full mouth. She looked crazy, but she didn't mind. Claire reached around and fed a drumstick to the back of her head. When the drumstick was brought back, it was completely gone. So that was her peculiarity.
Lina grinned at Claire and gave her thumbs up. "I've never met someone who could eat faster than me," she swallowed her ham and reached across the table to pat Claire's head. "Atta girl."
This interaction wasn't missed by neither Enoch nor Millard. Millard on one hand, felt his admiration for the girl growing. She was so different than the girls he's used to. What year was it again?
Enoch, however, narrowed his eyes at the girl. Her short figure and bright smile didn't fool him for a second, she wasn't worth it nor would she ever be.
"Enough said," Miss Peregrine started gaining everyone's attention. "I'd like to formally introduce everyone to Lina, she will be staying here."
"For how long?" Enoch questioned. Lina looked to find him already staring at her. His chocolate eyes held light years more worth of knowledge than she did, and Lina admired it. He was so handsome. Devastatingly so.
"Only the night, don't worry." Lina mumbled.
"You're welcome to stay here with us for longer than that." Miss Peregrine insisted. "You belong with us."
"Yeah, stay Lina." Claire exclaimed with a large smile on her face.
"What? No," Enoch argued, Olive put her hand on his shoulder almost as if to calm him down. Lina noticed this with a small grimace, Olive was gorgeous. It's not a surprise that they were a thing. Although, she shouldn't have cared anyways. "We don't even know her, she could be lying."
"Why don't you go with her then?" Emma suggested causing everyone's eyes to lay on her. "She can show you she's not lying I'm sure."
"That's a good idea Emma, maybe Enoch will fix his trust issues if he realizes that she's not a threat." Hugh sarcastically remarked, just to get on his elders nerves. Fiona smacked his arm.
Miss Peregrine nodded. "You need to go to the ocean with her Enoch, she'll show you there." The head lady glanced at her watch and signaled to Horace. "Time is up. Theatre time."
