We were inches apart when suddenly we heard our phones vibrate. It was from the news and it said that the dangerous couple escaped from prison. After Katara read that, she froze. She had a scared look on her face.

"A-Aang, can I stay at your house tonight? Please," she said sounding scared.

"Of course," I replied. "But don't you have your parents at your house?" I asked.

"Th-They..uh...died a long time ago," she said looking away.

Aang's POV

It's Sunday and it's been a week since Katara and I were in the amusement park. On Friday we got a B on the project. Katara has been staying at my house. I assumed that it was because of the news article that said that the dangerous couple escaped from jail. Katara and I have been close, but she still hasn't accepted that we're friends. We've been getting notifications that the dangerous criminal couple has been murdering people. Every time that happens, Katara gets scared and does some waterbending and whispers things to herself. I'm really worried about her, but I haven't said anything because every time I try to, she ignores me or walks away. I then see her waterbending and whispering things to herself again after getting another notification.

"Katara, is something wrong?" she tries to run away, but I grab her hand. "Please, just tell me what's wrong. I'm worried about you," I say. She sighs.

"No. Nothing is okay," she cried with tears rolling down her eyes. I immediately pulled her closer to me and hugged her. After a few seconds, she seemed to calm down.

"Tell me what's wrong. I'm here for you if you need me," I told her.

She looked away from me and said, "I'm just scared about the dangerous couple," But I knew that it was more than just that.

"And..." I said, trying to make her talk more.

"Don't you know that they've killed thousands of people? They've ruined my life!!!" she said with crying. "I don't expect you to understand," she said looking away.

"Actually, I do understand. They killed my parents when I was 8," I said sadly. She looked at me with tears in her eyes. She then pulled me in for a hug.

"I'm sorry Aang," she said feeling sorry.

"Don't worry about it. It happened a long time ago," I replied. 

The next day...

It was Monday, which meant school, and Katara and I walked to school. Katara wore her black hood and got back to her attitude. We finally reached school and as we walked into the school, I saw the gang.

"Hey, Twinkletoes is here!" exclaimed Toph.

"Hey, bro! Where were you all weekend? Zuko said.

"Oh, I was a bit busy," I said.

"Well, I hope that it was more important than spending time with your friends. You haven't answered my phone calls or replied to my messages," Haru said, crossing his arms and looking at me with angry eyes.

"Oh...I'm sorry guys, I promise I'll make up for it-" I said but was interrupted by Haru.

"I'm just teasing bro. You don't have to worry. Although, you better make up for it," said Haru patting my shoulder.

"Who's that?" asked Azula, pointing at Katara.

"Oh, uh guys, this is-" I didn't get a chance to finish because Katara put her hand on my mouth.

"Don't say it," she said sternly with her eyes crossed. "I'll see you later," she said and walked away.

"So who is she?" asked Zuko.

"Let me guess, your girlfriend?" teased Haru. I blushed when he said that.

"No, just a friend," I said looking away. She is just a friend. But why do I get this feeling like we could be something more? Ugh, stop it Aang. She doesn't even accept that we're friends, imagine how she'll react if I just say that I have feelings for her. She won't talk to me ever again! Plus, I probably don't even have feelings for her. I'm good with her being my friend.

"Something tells me that you have feelings for her," smiled Ty Lee.

"Does she go to Republic High?" asked Mai?

"Uh..." I didn't know what to say. Would Katara be okay with me telling them that she's the girl with the highest grades in Republic High? I was saved by the bell telling everyone to get in their classes.

I had most of my classes with Katara, but she seemed focused on something. I was worried for her. Why can't she just tell me what's really going on?

Timeskip to lunch

I went to the cafeteria to look for Katara. She is really good at getting away from people. I then notice her with her black hood sitting all by herself. I walk up to her and ask, "Katara why don't you sit next to me and my friends at the table?"

"No thanks, Aang," she said sadly.

"Why not?" I asked. She looked away from me, and somehow, I could tell she was almost crying.

"Katara! Why can't you tell me what's going on?!" I yelled. Luckily the room was too loud to hear me.

"Because you would hate me! Now just stay away from me Aang!!!" she yelled back crying. She then ran out of the room.

Katara's POV

I ran out of the room with tears on my face. I thought that I could make a new life. I thought that I could run away from my past. But it keeps finding me no matter what I do. I should just end myself to stop all of this! I run next to a pond and cry with my face in my lap. My phone then vibrates. Should I look at it? I take my phone and it's another notification from the news. It said that they found the couple kill a teenage boy right in front of them and then they said: "We're coming Kitty!" I froze in fear. I then hear someone behind me.

"Katara..."

Once I heard that soft, kind voice, I knew that it was Aang.

"Aang, I told you to stay away from me,"

"Katara-" he started but I cut him off.

"You know what, it's actually good that you ran after me. I'm going back to my house or maybe move,"

"What?! Katara why are you moving?!" he said with sadness, almost yelling.

I kept on crying in my lap. I felt Aang hug me.

"Katara, please. Tell me what's wrong. I'm your friend," he said. I pulled away from the hug.

"You are not my friend! I don't need any friends! Every friend I had betrayed me and so will you!" I yelled while crying.

"Katara...tell me what's happening. I will be here for you. I will never betray you," he said sounding worried. I looked into his eyes and knew that he meant what he said.

"Fine, I'll tell you the truth,"
