Chapter 9: The Family

Nia's POV

The ride to my house you could say was really awkward. It was me and Jasper in the front and Bryce in the middle in the back but he was leaning on the middle divider in the front. You could tell he was trying to make a conversation with me and Jasper but failing miserably.

It would start off with me and Jasper talking about possible plans on what to do together here. Then Bryce would interrupt saying he would like to go too saying that would be fun to do. Soon me and Jasper struck another conversation about dogs for some odd reason and then boom Bryce butted in saying that pitbulls are only mean because of their owners. Bryce just blurted out a random fact about pitbulls and automatically killed the conversation.

After a few miserable attempts to keep a good convo going I stopped and turned the radio up. The radio was playing Bubbly by Colbie Caillat. I automatically started singing to it because I couldn't resist a song like this.

I've been awake for a while now

And I crinkle my nose

I went on and sang the rest of the song not noticing the stares from the two men in the car. As I finished singing the song I looked over to Jasper who's eyes were wide in astonishment. His mouth was also agape so I closed it for him. Then I looked back at Bryce and he too was shocked and surprised.

"Umm did I kill something while I was driving or...?" I questioned

"No, no, its just I didn't know you had any singing abilities, I would hear you humming during facetime and softly song something and it was okay but I didn't know you were this good."

I just blushed and kept driving and soon we were almost at my house. After a few more stop lights I pulled up into my drive way. Jasper helped me get all his bags and I said bye to Bryce and hugged him thanking him for coming.

I unlocked the door when all of a sudden I was picked up and Jasper held me bridal style and walked into my house. My whole family was there which was my parents, brother, and older sister. Did I mention I had an older sister? Oops she's 23 and her name is Felicite. She goes to college in Oregon, so I was happy she made a little road trip back to the house to see Jasper.

I awkwardly said hi to everyone while Jasper walked us into the house. He finally put me down and greeted my parents, brother and sister. So far my parents seem accepting of him. My brother already loves him for an unknown reason. Jasper already has Zeke on his back. And my sister doesn't seem so protective over me anymore she's more laid back and chill with Jasper. Usually she's up in all the guys faces that I date asking what they do and why they're here getting into their business. Its a good change now.

Then I saw my dad take Jasper into his office and I got so scared because 1 it meant he was in trouble, or 2 I don't know it's usually just number 1. So being the curious person I am I put my ear up to the door. I heard everything they were talking about.

"So how did you find my daughter."

"Well Mr.Fletcher to be honest I met her on an online dating app."

"Why did you talk to her in the first place?"

"Well your daughter is very beautiful and that's what I saw on her profile picture."

"So your just judging my girl on her looks?"

"No sir, I didn't mean it that way it's just that's what I first noticed then I started talking to her. We both had the same interest and loved what we did which was playing baseball and softball."

"So what do you do now? Your a freshman in college right?"

"Yes Mr.Fletcher, I'm majoring in baseball but I'm also studying to become a surgeon just in case things don't work out as I planned."

"So you're saying you don't believe in yourself?

"No sir, it's just you never know if I might injure myself or anything can go wrong like a freak accident so I have a back up plan."

"Are you good in baseball? What do you play?"

"Honestly I think I got what it takes to make it to the majors, I don't mean to toot my own horn but right now I'm deciding whether to go with the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels or the A's. It's hard without a manager. Oh and I play catcher, third and a little bit of outfield."

"Well do you need a manager because I've been through the farm system I know how it works kid. Nice just like my baby a catcher."

"Seriously that would be much appreciated?! Nia's never told me that before."

"Hahaha well I gotta say it, its in her blood."

"But seriously you wanna become my manager because I need a lot of help deciding."

"Sure why not it going to be a fun ride. Oh and Nia you could come in now if you'd like I know you were behind the door."

I opened the door and I was blushing so hard, I guess my dad had ears as big as an elephant. I don't know how he could of heard me.... I sat down next to Jasper looking right at my dad not being able to look at Jasper at the moment. My dad looked back from me and Jasper and was about to say something when my mom barged into the office.

"Zeke fell down the stairs and I think he broke his arm!"

Everyone rushed out of the room to see Zeke. There he was sitting on the stairs clutching his arm to his chest crying.
