Seventeen

"I'm surprised that after years, you finally decided to go back here."

I smirked. "Mas nakakagulat na umuwi ka dito para asikasuhin ang kaso ng kliyente mo na halos isuka mo na."

Mabilis na sumama ang itsura niya at sinamaan ako ng tingin. Automatic na yata na ayan ang ekspresyon niya kapag pinag-uusapan namin ang kliyente niyang mataas ang tingin sa sarili.

"Sayo na nang-galing na kliyente ko siya, so you shouldn't put too much meaning on it. That's why you're hurting. You're thinking beyond the real thing."

Now it's my turn to frown. "What the heck are you saying?"

Siya naman ang ngumisi sa akin ngayon. "You'll see..."

Malilitong tinitigan ko siya. He's smirking meaningfully at me and I have a bad feeling about it because I feel like he knows something related to me that I don't.

What can he know about me that I don't?

"Let me carry her." Hinawakan niya ang likod ni Francine na nasa bisig ko.

Wala sa sariling binigay ko sa kaniya si Francine. Agad namang nagpabuhat si Francine sa kaniya at yumakap sa leeg niya bago muling nakatulog.

The words he said made me think and preoccupied for a while. It bothers me that much.

Bitbit ang isang bagahe, sumunod ako kay Night palabas ng airport at papunta ng sasakyan niya. People are looking at us while we're walking, but more on looking at Night who's carrying Francine in his arms. I mean, who wouldn't look? He's Midnight Walter after all. One of the best lawyers in the country, both the Philippines and the United States at that. And he's carrying a kid even if he's known for being a bachelor. Siguradong magiging laman na naman siya ng balita, hindi nga lang dahil sa isang kaso.

Thank God I have my aviators on.

Isinakay niya si Francine sa backseat habang ako ang nasa passenger at siya ang driver.

"Where are you going to stay? Do you want to crash to my house?"

Mabilis akong umiling sa sinabi niya. I look out the window of his car and silently observe outside for a few seconds. Halos walang nagbago sa Pilipinas maliban na lang sa ilang bagong building at sky way.

"No need, we'll stay in the small house that Dad brought when he was staying here. Hindi ka makakapag-uwi ng babae kapag nandoon kami kaya huwag na lang, baka lalo pang uminit ang ulo mo." Pang-aasar ko at sinulyapan siya.

He scoffed and rolled his eyes without looking at me. "I don't bring girls in my house. I want to keep it clean."

"So you're saying that girls are dirty?!" I gasped. "What an ass!"

He looked at me and laughed after seeing my flustered face. Nalukot lalo ang noo ko sa pagtawa niya dahil wala namang nakakatuwa sa pinag-uusapan namin at sa ekspresyon ko. What he said was unacceptable!

"Chill. That's not what I mean but you can also say that. I'm sure you know the dirty I'm talking about. A different kind of mess."

I glare at him. "Shut up! Francine might hear you. That's so disgusting, Midnight!" Singhal ko.

This nasty man is my cousin, Midnight Walter, the CEO of Al Gala Law firm and founder of his own company, Walter Firm. Anak siya ng nakakatandang kapatid ni Dad at nagkakilala kami bago ko pa nalaman na pinsan ko siya. I first met him as Rios' business partner and associate. Nagtatrabaho si Rios sa firm ni Night dahil iba ang negosyo ng magulang niya.

"I just explained my point because you misunderstood me." Depensa niya pa.

Inirapan ko lang ulit siya sa inis ko. Thank goodness na may headset si Francine na suot! She can't sleep in a moving car without those Disney kinds of music so I put her cute headset after Midnight put her down in the backseat. I put it on to her so she could rest after hours of flight and now there's another use of it. So she could not hear how foul-mouthed her uncle Midnight was.
