ruby walked into the brightly lit classroom, skimming the room for alice. she normally was sitting in the corner, scrolling through the contents of her phone. but today she was talking to someone else. alice wasn't one to talk with others besides the people inside hers and ruby's friend group.

"hey," ruby walked up to the girl and the few other people, two girls and a boy, "what's up?"

alice cracked a larger smile, "talking to them, we used to be in a book club together." her ordinarily slow voice was now quicker and more affable.

the change in alice's characteristics threw ruby off, "you wanna go sit down?" she gestured to their usual seats across the room.

"yeah sure, just give me a couple of minutes."

ruby nodded and began walking back to her seat. the class got fuller and fuller, more kids taking their seats as the bell came close to ringing. the blonde sat impatiently at her seat, eyeing alice. she seemed so much more energetic talking to them.

"kids, kids, kindly take your seats, please." mrs. gales tired voice interrupted the buzz of the class.

alice smiled one last time at the group and walked back over to her girlfriend.

"hey rubes, sorry i left you hanging." the ravenette sighed and sat down, placing a small kiss on ruby's cheek.

"it's fine."

alice half-smiled and looked up at the teacher, who was starting the math lesson. ruby kept her gaze on the girl, taking in her features.

"are you okay love? you seem off today." alice opened the door to her locker and shoved her math book in, replacing it with her camera.

"i'm fine, just tired." she shrugged, also taking things from her locker.

"look," alice pointed to a few girls across the hallway who were happily singing along with each other, "lively." she put the camera up to her face and snapped a picture towards the girls.

ruby let out a small 'damn it' and closed her locker. the two walked down the hall together. once alice shoved her camera into her bag she reached over for ruby's hand.

"are you sure you're okay?"

"yes, al." ruby squeezed her hand a couple of times.
