The group sat around the campfire that night, all of their moods were down after the loss of Winston. Aris dropped some wood on the fire before taking a seat beside Charlotte. She patted his shoulder lightly as he offered a weak smile.

"I thought we were supposed to be immune" Mihno said as he stared into the flames.

"Not all of us, I guess" Teresa spoke.

"Guess the maze was just to separate their 'saviours' from whoever they consider useless" Miles muttered muttered as he threw a stick into the fire as it crackled.

"If Winston can get effected we should assume so can the rest of us" Newt added from the other side of Charlotte.

"I never thought I'd say it...I miss the glade" Frypan said as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"You're not the only one" Charlotte whispered as she brought my knees to her chest. She could feel Newts gaze on her but as she turned to face him, he looked away. She then took the knifes from my bag as I began sharpening them.

The next day they found themselves  walking through the Scorch, they were all exhausted and were beginning to give up on any hope we had left. Mihno went to take a drink but nothing came from his bottle as she passed him her own. He nodded gratefully before taking a small sip and returning it.

"I'm sorry...About Winston" Charlotte told Newt as she walked along his side.

He remained quiet as the back of their hands brushed one another's before the girl quickly moved her own slightly away.

"We can't save everyone" He responded quietly.

"We can certainly try" She said as she rested a hand on his shoulder. "If you ever feel like talking about it, I'm sure I can make some time in my schedule for you"

"I'll keep that in mind" He said with a forced smile.
"Same for you, I know it wasn't easy for you losing your friends either"

"Maybe so, but this isn't about me. You lost your friend" She protested.

He patted her on the back as they continued walking, with short conversations in between. They walked for hours beyond hours, the hot sun practically melting all of them. As night began to fall the group all lay around in a circle, as we drifted into sleep. Well, most drifted into sleep. Charlotte sat up, her face buried in my knees. They'd made it so far, yet lost so much. That was when she first heard it, the rumbling in the clouds above. She looked to Thomas beside her as she tapped him. His eyes opened as he sat up slowly.

She didn't think he heard the storm coming, she thought he was too distracted by the lights in the distance. Lights. That meant someone was out there.

"Newt get up. Come on, let's go. Frypan, Aris" Thomas said as he began waking people up while the blonde girl did the same.

"Hey Kenzie, wake up" Charlotte said as she gave her friend a small shake.
