How To Get Banned From A Library

•Cover A Book In Food•

Had this place been like the big cities Lilia had lived in many times, Maylee's parents would have been screaming at her for walking around with a random stranger she met hanging out in the yard of someone's house she didn't know and ripping a book to shreds. But small towns, Lilia noticed, didn't seem to care about that. Everyone instead wore a warm smile and welcomed each newcomer into their lives.

Well, everyone except Cody anyway. He had been one torn book page away from attempting to snap Lilia's neck.

Maylee parents smiled as she walked through the kitchen and introduced them to Lilia, both of whom seemed to be almost overjoyed that she was there.

"Got a new friend?" Her mom said, giving her husband a quick peck on the cheek before he bent down to do the same to Maylee and head off into the next room. "He's gotta go take people's orders because your brother hasn't shown up yet."

Maylee tilted an eyebrow, almost as if her mother's sentence made no sense. "But he's never late," Then, she paused, thinking it over a bit before continuing with, "unless Auntie conned him into helping her at the library again."

The woman chuckled a bit, flipping her hair back and nodding. "That would make more sense than the excuse he gave when he called. Something about an evil monster ruining all the happiness in the world...I don't know, but that's you're brother for ya. He should be here soon though, I had him stop by the house and put some clothes in the wash."

"Brothers." Maylee rolled her eyes and then turned back to Lilia. "Ready to eat?"

"It's alright. I'm really not all that hungry." That was a lie, and Lilia knew it. She was starving, the gum she's been chewing most of the day being the only slight form of a meal she's had. But there was always something about taking something from another person when they offered that didn't set well with her. Sure, it was a lot less rude than taking something without permission, but the fact that someone was actually being nice to her and then she in effect was putting them at an inconvenience never set well with her.

"It's no trouble, really. I might even be able to convince uncle Harvey to whip up a bit of his famous enchilada soup." Maylee was telling Lilia, right as her mom piped in.

"Yum, that sounds good. And I think that might actually be on the special today. Let me check with your uncle. Be right back."

Lilia watched as Maylee's mom walked away, heading in the direction of a bald guy in the back who was chopping away at some tomatoes and throwing them into a pot. She assumed that was uncle Harvey.

"Come on, Lilia." With a soft jab in the shoulder, Maylee gestured for Lilia to follow her. "Gotta find something to feed Dill. There's got to be tons of stuff laying around in here we can use."

And Lilia knew her ultimate plan of course, feed Dill on the already messed up book. She wondered how Cody would react to that if he were here.

Lilia laughed a bit, following her around the kitchen. "How about dog food? I hear dogs like that."

"Look around," The girl moved her hands in the air, placing them on her hips a moment later. "We're in a restaurant. We don't tend to keep dog food around here. Besides," Maylee's eyes locked on a plate sitting on a nearby counter. "Dill loves spaghetti."

"Um, Maylee. Isn't that someone's order?" Lilia questioned, lowering her voice a bit.

"You sound like my brother. Quit being such a goody two shoes." Lilia never thought she'd hear those words being used to describe her. She oddly liked it.

But Maylee was stuck in her ways, grabbing the plate with both hands. The little booger probably would have gotten away with it too, if a voice hadn't come from behind them that both made Lilia's eye pop wide open at who the voice sounded like and Maylee the almost drop the food all over the floor.

"Maylee! What in the heck? Dad's told you before, don't touch anything." His backpack was still slung over his arm, his hair hidden under that stupid cap of his.

Maylee rolled her eyes, slouching against the counter. "You're so lame, you know that."

Lilia watched as he huffed, taking his hat off and running his hands through his hair as he'd done so many times in the short amount she hung out with him earlier. Then, Cody stopped, catching a glance in Lilia's direction and dropping the cap on the floor. "Crap! Not you again."

Question: If you were Lilia, how would you destroy this story?

My answer: Seriously guys, i'm writing this book. Am I seriously required to answer this question? I'm already practically coming up with new ways to destroy a book every chapter, all of which I don't approve of... Alright, here goes... I guess i'd go with burning a book. I mean, if you're gonna do it, go big right...
