How To Get Banned From A Library

•Use A Book As A Chew Toy•

Lilia couldn't help but be both shocked and excited by how much of a natural this kid was. Not only did she have the brilliant idea to throw the book against a tree as they were walking past the park and stomp on it over and over once it dropped to the ground, but once Maylee had declared that it was time for lunch, she decided that the hard back would make a decent plate for her dog. But, of course, she let the dog use it as a chew toy first, just to make sure he liked it.

It seemed that Maylee had the makings of a terrific rebel in her, and at such a young age -which Lilia was assuming was about twelve. Lilia herself had been at these book destroying shenanigans for about two years, starting around thirteen, but Maylee went about each task as if she's been reckless from birth. And to make it even better -or worse, all depends of how you look at it-, she was that walking monster while coming in an adorable package of pastel colors, cheeky smiles, and a soft voice. As for Lilia, well, Lilia was just plain and simple, destructive Lilia, inside and out.

And no matter how hard her parents tried, that wasn't going to change anytime soon.

"Dill, stay put. We'll be back in a minute, boy." Maylee instructed as she talked to her dog, waving her arm toward the entrance -or rather, exit- of a restaurant and urging Lilia to follow her. Dill -apparently being named after a favorite childhood food of Maylee's- just continued to wag his tail and do exactly as he'd been told, tongue still hanging out of his mouth.

Lilia walked behind Maylee, only getting a few steps into the building before she asked, "Um, why are we going through the backdoor?"

She turned to Lilia and smiled for a moment before walking again. "My family owns this place, and dad's always telling me to stop by through here so I don't disturb any costumers." She said it in such a way that it made Lilia think this rule had been put in place because Maylee's done more than disturb people in the past, but she didn't mention it. "Oh, and by the way, lunch is on me, so get whatever."

Question: Book you didn't think you were gonna like at all but you ended up loving/liking a lot?

My answer: 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' by Jenny Han. It didn't really seem like the kind of story I wanted to read (i've never really cared for love triangles) when I picked it up at the library. Gosh, I probably wouldn't have even considered picking it up in the first place if it weren't for the fact that I desperately wanted to read something and i've read literally everything my library has to offer. Anyway, when it comes to teen fiction, I tend to read more Sarah Dessen than any other author, but I think Jenny Han is right after her. I loved all three books in her summer series and will forever love Belly. *SPOILER* I will also forever cry about what happened to Susannah... :(
