"Dad, how long is this case going to take? You know I can always stay at Savaiya's house for the weekend," I said, while playing with the radio. "I'm sorry, but this isn't just for a weekend.. it could take months,'' Dad explained. I stopped everything and turned my head around. "WAIT! Months? Are you joking?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Don't worry, I'm taking you to your mom's and brother's. You haven't seen them in so long, it will be good." He tried to reassure me. I slumped back in my seat- "Wait...does that mean I'm going to have to go to school there?" I asked, he didn't answer. But that's how it always is, if there is something he doesn't want to tell me, he just sits there in silence.
20 minutes later we stopped for gas and I finally broke the silence, which, if it wasn't for me, we would have not spoken for the rest of the day. "I guess it would be nice to see Scott and Mom," I said, trying to look at the positive side of things. "That's more like it" he said while filling up the gas. "Hey, can I have some money to get snacks for the rest of the road trip?" I asked, knowing we weren't even half way to Beacon Hills. He gave me 20 bucks and I walked into the gas station. I grabbed a bag of chips and some candy. As the man was scanning the food he looked at me and asked "Why are you so down? Aren't you enjoying the summer, schools starting soon, aren't you partying with friends?" I faked a smile and said " I was but it's my sophomore year and I'm moving to Beacon Hill with my twin brother that I only see on holidays and my mom that I barely know. And my dad isnt even coming, he has some stuped case, which always happens. Just as I think we're good and I'm happy, he leaves for another work thing. Sometimes I wished for Scott when my dad and mom got me in the divorce. I mean the last time I was there was before the divorce when we all lived there. He says this could take months and he always under plays these things so that means this could be so much longer. It also means I won't be with my friends in San Francisco for my sweet 16" I took a huge breath gasping for air "Sorry I just had to get it off my chest" He smiled and choked a little "Wow that's quite a story. Did you say San Francisco?" I smiled too " Ya" " Wow that's got to be around a day or two road trip" "Ya" I sighed " 39 hours to be exact" "Well, That came to 10.85$" I gave him the 20 bucks and took the food and change. He almost looked relieved as I lefted.
We got in the car and drove off. We had to stay at a motel for the night. In the morning we got right back into the car and drove. My dad had to get back as soon and he dropped me off. I put in my earphones and put on my playlist. A couple hours later we entered Beacon Hills. I sat up straight and looked out the window. I thought to myself "wow, this place is basically just a forest". We drove onto mom's street and into their parking lot. I got out with my stuff and rang the doorbell. Scott answered "HANNAH!" he yelled "SCOTT"I yelled back and we ran at each other into the biggest hug. "Oh my god it's been so long," he said as we stopped hugging. "I know," I said agreeingly. "What are you doing here?" he asked, as mom came to the door. "Who's at the door?" She said, while walking down the stairs. We made eye contact. "Hannah?" she said as if it was a question. She gave me the biggest hug. At first I just stood there but then I hugged her back. She pulled me away so she could look at me " you've grown so much" said almost tearing up. I smiled and said " Well last time I saw you was 2 christmases ago" Her eyes widened. "That long? Oh my god!" Scott helped me bring my stuff in. " So you're staying?" he asked. "Seems like it." We smiled at each other. Meanwhile, downstairs I could hear mom and dad talking. "Hey, Melissa, I'm sorry to bring Hannah here, it's just.." but Melissa interrupted. "Don't be sorry! I'm so happy to see her, I can't believe how long it's been," she said with her hand over her mouth. After unpacking everything, we had dinner. "We haven't had a family dinner in a really long time, huh?" Mom said while eating. "Ya," Scott and I said at the same time. "It's pretty late to be driving home to San Francisco, Rafael, do you want to stay in the spare room?" Mom suggested " Oh I wouldn't want to impose and anyway, I have a flight at midnight," Dad said. We finished dinner and said goodbye to Dad. Scott brought me to his room so we could catch up. I told him about San Francisco and how I usually just stay at my friend Savaiya's house when dad goes on trips for work, and he told me all about his new friends and that he's on the lacrosse team. "Wow, so you finally have more than one friend?" I said sarcastically, we laughed and went to bed.
