Quinn
My heatless fingers trace the triangles in the dated linoleum floor. Looking everywhere except for Harper, I tend to the tangled slinky that is my thoughts. Spirals of tangled plastic wrapped around each other at odd contorted angles.
"Quinn..."
If I were to get up from the floor to locate a mirror, I have a pretty good guess at what I'd see. Just as the milky flush of scattered white skin once littered my hands, I'll now be ivory white.
The skin of fairytales.
The skin of a vampire.
"Quinn?"
What could she possibly...
Perplexed.
I'm utterly perplexed.
She clearly made progress too, but she's white. Moments before she was the furthest behind and now every inch of her exposed skin is white.
"Quinn, is it really that bad?"
I'm staring at her. How is this possible? I'm staring at the odds. I knew this was one big giant game of probability run by none other than mercy itself, but this is different.
I'm missing something, aren't I? Her voice wobbles as all she seems to be able to say is my name.
She's scared, she's really scared. Trembling under my stare. I do only what a monster of my capacity would, I laugh.
Ace
Our visitors are more like me than I gave them credit for. Only one heartbeat remains unsteadily steady in the shadowy expanse of the classroom.
Silence extends throughout the room. Nothing.
More nothing.
Then all of a sudden something, a lot of something.
Standing side by side in the middle of the room, we are helplessly cornered and every single one of the rooms occupants knows it.
"Finally, you've come to collect us, or might I recall, you intend to save us." A new voice rasps the words, making a simple statement sound vile.
"Fates." Dekka whispers.
I never once would have described her as meek, but right now, it's the only word that fits.
Her brother just died after he tried to attack her and now she has the sense to act meek?
What has she gotten us into?
Better yet, what have I gotten myself into?
Odin
Our footsteps are too rushed amongst the movement of my peers around me. The other students don't seem to either care or question a very skittish Willow as she pulls me through the hallway by my wrist.
