Chapter 6 Falling For Jace and Birthday Presents

It was about 9am, I decided to have a walk around, down some hall way, with no idea where I am, just walking, I dont have anything to do anyway in this huge place, and I hadn't seen anyone for about and hour and a half, so I just thought about my father, how him and Jonathan would make fun of me, how they'd say you weren't mean enough, weren't good enough for the shadow hunter world, how a girl like me will never be strong enough for this world of course 2 men thought a girl wouldn't get far. I thought about how horrible the dungeons were, how they would just give you a cup of water and a piece of bread if you hadn't been screaming that day, I was glad they were dead, they deserved it, I just hoped Clary and Jace didn't have to suffer as much as I had when they fought them. Jace rounded a corner to my right bumping into me, but I was so confused and lost, so I could use the help,

"Jace how do I get to my room, im lost?" I say honestly, i could really do with his help,

"ill show you, but first I need to take you somewhere" he said with a grin and started walking the way I had just come from, I sighed but followed anyway.

when we got to the end of the hallway I walked into a room that looked like a library, there were books everywhere, all along the walls and a stair case leasing to the second floor so people could get to the higher level, it was beautiful, full of dark colours of browns and blacks but bright from the open curtains, "(y/n) do you know how to use a portal?"

"yes of course, Valentine showed me when I was little"

"good because we're going somewhere special, take my hand and let me take you" he said softly and held his hand out for me to take

as soon as i felt him grip my hand, he pulled me into the portal, the liquid surrounding me in blue, Jace's hand the only thing keeping me from floating away, after a few seconds, I landed on the ground but lost my footing as i touched the ground its been to long, im definitely out of practice but you fell onto sand

"Jace where are we?"

"At the beach of course"

"Why the beach of all places?"

"because its part of your birthday present" he had had a smirk on his face the whole time he spoke but now there was an emotion behind it that wasn't there before, adoration. Jace looked at me for what felt like hours but in reality, was probably only minutes. He reached for my hand, I gave it to him gladly as he pulled me to a private section of the beach behind some tall rocks. There on the sand was a picnic blanket, with fresh looking bread, cheese, jam, fruit and sparkling water. It was beautiful in the moon light looking out to the dark blue sea, there was only one word I could think of to describe the scene before me.

Captivating

Jace led me to the blanket and we ate the food, drank the water and just talked with each other about everything and anything, about family life, how it was to deal with siblings, most embarrassing moments, most memorable moments, on that beach, I could really open my heart to Jace, something i never thought id be able to do with anyone, by the time I looked at the sky it was pitch black. Midnight.

"we should probably head back" I say unenthusiastically, not wanting to end the evening

"we cant do that I haven't given you your main early birthday present yet" Jace stood and took my hand once again and led me even further into the private area of the beach, after rounding a few tall cliffs, we came across a cave hidden in the rock face by a invisibility rune, when Jace leads me through the dark tunnel, lighting the way with his watch light, I found what Jace seemed to be looking for, another portal on the wall?

"Where are we going if we're not going home... er.. I mean the institute" I stutter, accidently calling the institute "home", I don't have a home, this thought instantly putting me into a bad mood causing a scowl to unconsciously form on my face

"wait, what's wrong?" Jace asked with concern in his voice,

"its nothing, just a bad realisation is all" still scowling

"no really tell me, after tonight and everything we've said to each other, don't you trust me?" he said almost sadly

"no I do, that's not it. Its just I've never really had a home and when I accidently said the institute was home, because it isn't my home, it made me realise that I have never had a home" I said this softly looking at Jace with sadness in my eyes.

Jace took a step closer, to emphasise what he was about to say, "(y/n) you will always have a home at the institute, where I can be so can you, understood? because I don't want you to think your not welcome there. People want you there. I want you there." he almost whispered the last part, so quietly I almost didn't hear him but being in a cave and having heightened hearing, I did.

"Thank you Jace, that means more than you think" you genuinely smiled at him for what felt like the hundredth time that night, but this one meaning a hundred times more than the others.

It was then I realised how close we were, I took a slight step back, Jace noticing as well, smirked knowingly, luckily the cave is to dark for him to see me blush, damn him why does he have such an effect on me!

Jace, smiling, pulled me through the portal, when we emerged from it to the other side, I was standing in a room, a nice room at that, it was decorated with modern furniture and colourful paintings and pictures hanging on the wall, I recognised the design, but couldn't place where from. Suddenly a door to my left burst open revelling a ginger girl about your age who defiantly looked familiar, but she hadn't seen me yet, I was hidden next to Jace, out of her line of site.

"Jace what the hell are you doing in my house!?" Bethany asked clearly annoyed Jace had just stepped into her house without calling her first,

"I think he had a good reason don't you think Beth" I say as I stepped out from behind Jace, Bethany looked confused for a moment but recognition spread across her face as she grinned from ear to ear at me,

"(y/n) is that really you!?"

"hey Beth" I say calmly with a huge smile of my own, finally I have my friend back, I just wish I had the other two as well.
