After the CDC blowing up and losing Jacqui, we decided to set out for Fort Benning like Shane suggested. To save gas, we left Shane's truck and Daryl's truck behind. So, my family were riding in the RV but of course the Dixons had a backup which take consume as much gas. Daryl took Merle's motorcycle and Cody had his own. Cody had also left Dixon under my care in the RV as he was taking Hunter on the back of his bike whikst Daryl took Ryder. Rick wasn't overly thrilled but I backed Daryl up. We soon left the city of the dead as Glenn had dubbed it and made our way on the highway. I was sat at the table with Shane and Andrea, Jason was on the floor with Dixon whilst I watched Shane clean his hand gun. "Looks complicated." said Andrea, Shane chuckled and looked up at Andrea. "The trick is getting all these pieces to fit back together again." he said, "which doesn't always happen, am I right Mr Walsh?" I asked making Andrea laugh to herself. "As per usual Mrs Walsh, your right." Shane replied kissing the back of my hand. I peered over my shoulder, Dixon was lying in front of Jason as if he sensed a threat. I wasn't complaining about him protecting my son but what was he protecting him from.
Suddenly Dale slowed down, I stepped out the booth and let Shane out. We gathered in the driver's area as Daryl and Cody rolled up beside Dale's window. "You see away through Dix?" I asked and he motioned us forward. I sat back down as Dale began following the brothers through the maze of abandoned cars. A piercing scream came from the RV engine and Dale pulled over. We all got out but instead of running for Cody, Dixon stayed beside Jason, I was becoming really concerned as to why Dixon was so determined to stay be Jason's side. "I said, didn't I say it? Dead in the water and now we're stuck out here with no hope of..." Dale ranted but stopped when Daryl began digging through the trunk of the nearest car. "Ok, that was stupid." said Dale causing me to chuckle. "Dale, if you can't find a radiator hose here, I don't know." said Shane. "There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find here." said Daryl. "I don't feel right about this." sounded Lori's voice and everyone turned to look at her. "This place is a graveyard." she continued. I placed my hand on her shoulder, "it's ok." I whispered and we proceeded raking through cars.
Me, Lori, Carol and the kids stuck together whilst searching for things. "Jason, always within my sight." I said as Jason gripped Dixon's collar. "Ok momma." he replied. "That goes for you two as well." I said to Carl and Sophia. They nodded and went back to peering through windows. "Kat, Lori. Get down." whisper/shouted Rick and I felt an arm pull me under a red truck. I rolled on to my stomach and came face to face with Cody. "What the fuck? Where's Daryl? Where's my sons?" I asked panicked, "chill out. Ryder's between me and you. Daryl ran off with Hunter and my dog is probably with your boy." Cody explained. "Mommy." Ryder said looking up at me, "it's ok baby, I'm right here." I said pulling him closer to my side. Walkers started shuffling by, I looked around and saw Lori trying to keep Carol quiet because Sophia was all by herself. I couldn't see Shane or Daryl, I was panicking on the inside because my son was beside me and I had to be calm for him. Cody gripped my hand and smiled at me. He stroked my hair and kissed my cheek. "It's all good Kit-Kat." he whispered and I smiled back at him. The walkers pasted by but I was waiting for my brother's signal, I then heard Sophia screaming and turned to see two walkers chasing her off the highway. I then watched my brother follow her, I slid out and for my husband. "Shane!" I shouted and he caught me in his arms.
"Where's Jason?" I asked, "I thought he was with you." Shane replied. "I thought he was with you." I said. We both looked at each other wide eyed, "Jason!" I shouted but he was no where on the highway. At that moment, Shane jumped over the barricade and slid down the hill...
(SHANE'S POV)
I sprinted through the forest, I remembered Cody Dixon's dog was following Jason around and maybe it had led him down here. "Jason!" I shouted and then I heard a dog bark. "Dixon!" I shouted and another bark sounded. I ran in the direction of Dixon's deep barks, going as fast as my legs would let me. All I could think about was my son and the state my wife must be in. "Daddy!" I heard Jason shouted, "I'm coming Jase!" I shouted back pushing myself even harder. I came to a huge rock, "Dixon! Jason!" I shouted and the dog walked out. I also heard crying from the back of the rock, I walked round to see a small hole and looked at Dixon. "Jason!" I shouted and a little hand popped out of the rock. My son crawled out, his cheeks tear stained and his top was covered in dirt. "Daddy." he said still crying and I lifted him on to my hip. I hugged him and he continued crying into my shoulder. "What happened?" I asked, "monsters chased me and Dixon, so Dixon and me ran off the road and into the forest. He saved me Daddy." said Jason as I wiped his tears away. "Good dog." I said patting Dixon's head.
(KAT'S POV)
I kept looking at the forest and holding my tears back. At that moment Daryl and Hunter appeared. I pulled Hunter into a hug, "oh thank god, your ok." I said and he hugged me back. "Where's Jason?" Daryl asked and I felt the tears come back. "I don't know." I replied and Daryl pulled me into his big strong arms. "Where ever he is, he's got Dixon. Dog wouldn't leave the kid alone." Cody said. "Then he's safe." Daryl said and I looked up into his grey blue orbs. "How?" I asked wiping away stray tears, "Dixon's a trained police dog, he knows how to protect people." he explained and I looked over at Cody. "Yes Kat, I was a cop and Dixon's my dog." he said and I couldn't help but laugh. "What?" Cody said getting defensive, "Cody Dixon. A police officer?" I said laughing causing Daryl to laugh. A dog barked and Dixon ran on to the highway. "Dixon! Here!" Cody shouted, he ran over and sat beside me. Then I saw Shane carrying Jason and I sprinted at them. "Baby!" I shouted taking Jason into my arms and hugging him tightly.
I looked at Shane and he pointed at Dixon. "I'll tell you later." he mouthed and I nodded. Rick came back and took Shane, Glenn and Daryl down to a creek because we'd lost Sophia. Carol was freaking out and I knew the feeling for all of five minutes. But I had four men looking out for me, Carol just lost her husband (not much of a loss) and now her daughter's missing. I decided to sit with Cody and all my boys. Hunter kept Jason and Ryder occupied whilst I spoke to Cody. "You should've seen Daryl when we were in Atlanta, he was determined to find Merle but also to find Hunter." Cody said as I moved closer. "He was so pissed at Merle for letting him out of his sight and so was I. I could tell you were annoyed but you didn't show it." he continued. "I told Daryl you should have gone as well but he wouldn't listen as per the usual." I said and Cody laughed. "You know I remember that time you stood up to Merle and he came so close to hitting you but you shoved him into a tree. He was not happy because he had to go to hospital." Cody said causing me to chuckle. "I remember telling him I was pregnant with Hunter. He and your dad flipped but you and Daryl were there. Backing me up as usual." I said.
Cody gave me a look and put his hand on his hip. "Back up. I ain't nobody's back up." he said. "Oh yeah Mr Police Officer." I said and he shut down. "Gotcha." I whispered and he nudged my shoulder. Dixon stood up and began growling at one of the cars. "Dix? What's wrong buddy?" asked Cody kneeling beside him, Dixon barked and stood in front of the boys. "Cody, what is he doing?" I asked clutching his shoulder, "shit!" shouted Cody as a walker grabbed hold of his arm. Dixon lunged at it, sinking his razor sharp teeth into the walkers neck giving Cody a chance to stab the walker with his knife. "Kat!" I heard Shane yell, I turned round and he sprinted over. He grabbed my shoulders and began checking me over. "Shane, I'm fine." I said kissing his cheek, he blushed slightly before smiling at me. "Just checkin'." he said and turned to Cody. "Thanks man." Shane said and Cody nodded.
The darker it got, the more I worried about Daryl, Rick and Sophia. Carol hadn't moved from the side of the highway, Lori was trying her best to console her but failed. I spent most of my time with Cody, Dixon and all my boys, Cody trying to explain his past and me laughing a lot. I mean a Dixon as a police officer, that's funny...
