I felt a surge of fear shoot down my back as I continued to stare at Shane. He kept looking in the mirror and every once in a while would stare down at the electric razor. I felt like I should knock the door but I felt like I should stay out the way. I took a deep breath and knocked the bathroom door. He turned to face me, our eyes met for a split second before he turned away to face the steamy mirror again. I stepped in and walked up behind him. "Shane." I whispered placing my hands on his bare back, "yeah babe?" he asked trying to look at me. I leaned against his back and took in his scent. "What's wrong with you baby?" I asked massaging his shoulders, a moaned escaped his lips before he turned to face me. Shane grabbed my wrists gently and planted a kiss against my lips. "I'm fine hunny but could you help me shave this mop off?" he asked pointing to his hair. I ran my fingers through his damp, black hair and smiled at him. "I like your hair babe." I said. He chuckled, "I know but now that, that walker pulled a chunk out. It just doesn't look right." said Shane handing me the electric razor.
It took twenty minutes but I eventually got all his hair off. He looked so diffferent without his hair, the scar that was so well hidden by his hair was now much more visible. "How do I look?" asked Shane posing in his over sized clothes, "sort of like the man I married." I said causing him to chuckle....
Next Morning...
The next morning, Shane went out to help Glenn, T-Dog, Cody and Maggie collect rocks to build a grave for Otis whilst I stayed with Jason and Dixon. Rick walked in, still groggy from the blood transfusions, he sat beside me and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "I can hear Daryl's bike coming up the drive." he said, "Dixon, stay with Jason." I said and the dog lay beside my boy whilst me and Rick walked outside to see Daryl, the RV and Carol's Chorkee coming up the hill. As they pulled up, Daryl jumped off his bike and ran towards me with Hunter and Ryder following at his heels. He grabbed my wrists is his huge bear like hands, "how is he? Is he ok?" asked Daryl and I chuckled at him. "He's fine, come on I'll show him to you." I said leading him towards the house. I opened the bedroom door revealing Jason, asleep on the bed and Dixon laying beside him. "That dog is obsessed with your boy Kit-Kat." whispered Daryl edging closer to the bed, "well neither of them bite, so sit down." I said sitting on the bed and pulling Daryl down with me. "How's this all happen anyway?" he asked looking at Jason, "hunting accident, just a stupid accident." I replied stroking Dixon's fur.
Later on we went outside and joined the others for Otis's funeral. I stood beside Shane but Daryl stood relatively close with our boys and Cody. Hershel said a few words, each of us placing a stone on the grave as he did. "Shane, would you say a few words?" asked Hershel and Shane looked to me with a panicked look on his face. "I ain't never been good a speaking." he muttered and I smiled. "Please, you shared his last moments. I need to know what happened." pleaded Patricia. Shane sighed and stepped forward.
"We were down to our last bullets. Maybe three or four rounds left. He says we gotta save your boy and he gave me his bag and said I'll cover you. I looked back they were all over him. Otis died a hero, he died for my son and I thank him for what he did."
Shane stepped back and stood beside me. Taking his hand in mine before letting Hershel continue. After the funeral everyone started to set up camp, Rick decided to get a map and set up a plan to find Sophia. "You need to rest, you gave a lot of blood yesterday. One day in this heat and you'd past out." said Hershel, "what about me?" asked Shane leaning on the truck. "With your ankle, no. You push yourself to hard and you'll be laid up a month." he replied as I leaned on his shoulder. "Well I can be useful, I can drive up to the highway and check to see if she wandered back." said Shane and I kissed his cheek. "Just be careful." I whispered. Daryl walked up, straping his crossbow on to his back, "that just leaves me, I'm gonna head up this trail here and do a loop of the creek again." he said looking at me. "I'll look in on your boys Dix, don't worry." I said and Daryl smiled at me. "Thanks Katy, it's appericated." he replied.
I made my way back to house with Lori and Carl to check on Jason when I heard Shane behind me. "Babe!" he shouted and I stopped to turn and face him. "Yes Shane?" I asked and he smirked at me. He slammed his lips on to mine and I melted into his face. I used the hand that wasn't caressing Shane's head to shoo Lori and Carl on whilst Shane continued kissing. I pulled back slightly, "what's this for?" I asked as he attacked my neck. "Nothing, I just thought I'd make out with my wife before I left." he replied moving back up to my face. Our eyes met and I wrapped my hands around his neck. "I'll see you later and then all this is yours." I whispered, "ok I'll hurry back." Shane replied and we broke apart. I waved to him as he limped off towards his car. He blew me a kiss before reversing and driving out. "Only my husband." I thought making my way over to the house.
I climbed the stairs to meet Andrea, leaning against the side of the house. Glaring in my direction as if I'd done something wrong.
"Problem Andrea?"
"None at all, must be nice is all."
"What?"
"Having the model husband and son. Oh and the baggage."
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me, took me a while to work it out but I figure out why the Dixons are always so protective of you and your family."
"What exactly did you work out honey?"
"That Daryl's your ex and Hunter and Ryder's mommy is still alive, happily married and has another kid."
"That's none of your business."
"Does your brother know you actually mother three kids and not one. How did you think this pan out? Daryl would do all the work, Cody helped and Merle did fuck all. You call yourself a mother."
"I've got a little more experience than you sweetheart, at least I've had kids, so don't dare tell me how to raise my family. A lot went down before this apocalypse, so stay out of it."
"Why don't you make me?"
Cody stepped out and tapped Andrea's shoulder. "How about you leave my family alone? Anything that happened between Daryl and Kat is strictly their business, not yours or anyone else's, so fuck off." he growled causing Andrea to leave in a huff. I ran inside, slamming the bathroom door shut and tears streaming down my cheeks. The door creaked open, Cody peered in and then decided to sit beside me.
"Am I a good mother Cody?"
He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close.
"Yes you are. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, your making the best of a really awkward situation, nothing that happened between you and Daryl was your fault. Blame Merle for that."
I knew he was speaking the truth but why did I still feel this tidal wave of guilt over my shoulders...
