We'd been moving bodies for a while, I'd worked out why Jim dug the holes, he saw this coming. I'd left Jason with Hunter, Carl, Sophia and Ryder and Cody was watching over them. Everyone else was moving bodies about. Shane was mad at Rick for leaving and I was caught in the middle. Either I sided with Rick or Shane and I really couldn't be bothered arguing. "Jim's bit. A walker bit Jim!" shouted Jacqui and Shane pushed me beind him. "Let's see it." snapped Daryl, "I'm fine." Jim said but I saw him go for the shovel and so did Hunter. As Jim swung the shovel, Hunter grabbed it and tried to stop him. This enraged Daryl, who grabbed Jim and hoisted his shirt up, revealing a huge bite. This sparked the need for a plan and as per the usual, Rick and Shane couldn't agree. Shane wanted to go to Fort Benning and Rick thought the CDC could help Jim. I kept to myself not siding with either of them, I had other things playing on my mind like my second family. I went to check up on Jason before the funeral.
He was happily playing with his older cousin and half brothers whilst Cody and Dixon stood under a tree, watching. I walked over and stood beside him. "Hey Cody." I said, "hey Kat, how are you?" he asked as Dixon sat beside me. "I'm ok, last night was crazy. If your brother hadn't of saved me, I would have been dead." I replied and Cody chuckled. "Typical Daryl, always trying to be the big hero." he said throwing his hands up to exaggerate his point. I slapped his shoulder lightly, "chill out, I didn't mean anything by it." I said and Cody smiled as Jason ran over.
"Momma, can we go get Daddy?"
"Sure baby."
I lifted him on to my hip, "I'll see you around Kit-Kat." said Cody smirking at me and I smiled. "Yeah, see ya later Cody." I said walking away with my son to find my husband. "Do you know him momma?" Jason asked resting his head on my shoulder. "Cody Dixon? I've known him for years honey before I met Daddy." I explained and Jason smiled. Shane had stopped arguing with my brother and had turned his attention to moving bodies on to Daryl's truck. I snuck up behind him and kissed his cheek.
"Hi babe, hey bud."
"Hi daddy."
"Hi, you give up with Rick?"
Shane took Jason from me and rubbed the back of his head in frustration.
"The man won't listen, he wants to get help for Jim but we all know he's as good as dead."
"I know but maybe someone will know what this is."
"Yeah but what if it's dangerous? I need to protect you and Jason."
My eyes drifted over to Daryl and Hunter, Daryl was mucking about with him, making him laugh and all sorts.
"That's a risk you'll have to take, I know I'll get out because you always put us before you."
I kissed Shane's cheek, using his free hand, he roped me ito his side and kissed me passionately on the lips. I pulled back and pointed at Jason and Shane laughed. After the funeral, we made a plan and I manged to convince Shane to trust Rick. He didn't want to but he did it for me. Also Morales and his family weren't going with us, they announced plans to go to Birmingham to find family. So after emotional goodbyes, we piled into our cars and drove for the CDC. My family went in Shane's military styled truck, Jason sitting on my knee and Shane driving. Jason fell asleep, he hadn't slept due to the walkers that night. Shane looked at me, I could feel the concern in those chocolate brown eyes of his but I ignores it.
"What's wrong babe?"
"Nothing."
"No point in trying to fool me Kit-Kat, what's wrong?"
"Shane, would you ever leave me?"
The look of shock swept on to his face, he looked at me with his jaw hanging half way down his face.
"What? No, why would you even think about that?"
"No it's just. I've seen the way you look at Lori. I just get worried."
"Babe Lori is Rick's. Your mine. You've given a wonderful child and the best possible life. I'm not going anywhere."
I smiled and rested my head on Shane's shoulder. "I love you Kit-Kat." he whispered, "I love you too Shane." I whispered back. I drifted off but was rudely awakened by Shane shaking my shoulder.
"Kat! Kat! Jim's not doing so well, he wants left behind."
I got up and walked over to the tree Jim was leaned up against.
"Hey Jim."
"Hey Kat, looks like the end of the road for me."
"Not Jim, just the start of a new adventure."
"You always know what to say Katy, remember always keep your boys close."
"Boys? How do you know?"
"Dale made a guess. He's usually right."
"Yeah, close your eyes Jim."
"Goodbye Katy."
I stepped back and Shane took my hand. I took Jason's hand and we walked back to Shane's truck.
"Next stop CDC."
"Yeah babe."
"Hey, don't cry Kat. He's going to a better place."
Shane wiped my tears away with his thumb before starting up the engine and following Rick's car. It wa dark when we got to the CDC and darkness equals one thing...
