"Look at you go! I'm so proud of you baby!" She spoke to me as I smiled up at her. I had perfectly organized the alphabet and numbers from one to ten on the tiny white fridge. I just giggled and tucked myself back into her legs as she played with my bangs.
I had just gotten woken up. I was so proud of myself because my brain was working. "How many candles will be on your cake today?" She asked me as I giggled and held up a hand with five fingers.
She laughed and reached for my other hand. She raised my thumb to go along with my other five fingers. "Six! You get six!" She exclaims before reaching down and tickling my tummy. I burst out in giggles as she scoops me up in her thin arms and cradles me to her chest.
"You're growing up so fast! Look at you go! Where is my little Jade at? Six years old!" She says as I squeal between giggles.
She set me on top of the counter next to the dainty coffee pot and makeshift spice rack.
She pulled out the Betty Crocker cake she had made for me and the candles were already in it—ready for lighting. I gasped as I saw the blue frosting. My favorite.
She reached in her back pocket for her cigarette lighter and lit the candles, my eyes glowing with every new candle that had been lit. She started singing Happy Birthday to me as my smile continued to grow.
