Chapter Ten

~Kris's POV~

It's amusing how fast words can spread at our school. I'm not sure if it's just our school, or if this happens in every other school too. According to the rumors, a girl, prefect, was sent to the hospital due to breathing difficulty some time after recess ended, which was only a few minutes ago, I guessed. And to hear about this news from a whole different block where the incident occurred this fast, it's truly an amazement, mysterious even.

But that was not the point, the only reason I was even thinking about some rumor spread across school -'cause I usually wouldn't even bother listening to rumors- was because of the words "prefect" and "breathing difficulty", they immediately linked me to Luce. It couldn't be her right? How many prefects do we have in this school that actually suffers from breathing problems? As far as I know, it was only Luce. I could be wrong, though. I could just be thinking too much about it.

I shook my head, pushing the thoughts aside as I sighed. I couldn't go check on her, I couldn't skip class again. I've been causing way to much troubles lately and if I was caught skipping class and causing another problem again, I'd be suspended.

Groaning, I turned back to the teacher in front, explaining some sort of Maths equation. I couldn't understand a word he was saying, it's like he was speaking in some sort of alien language or something.

"God, I hate Maths." I muttered under my breath, slumping in my seat as I looked up at the white circular clock on the just as white classroom wall. It was still early. There was still more than three hours to go before school ends.

I'd just have to wait. Hopefully Luce was okay.

The school bell rang, signaling the end of school for today. I packed my bag, getting up as I slung it over one shoulder, heading towards the classroom door. I joined the crowd of students in the hallway, walking towards the main entrance where I always wait for Luce.

Just as I arrived at the entrance, a shrill voice screamed my name, "Kris!!" I knew that voice all too well. I turned back to see a girl running towards me frantically. "Kate?" Luce who was usually with her wasn't there today though.

The girl bent forward in front of me, panting with her hands on her knees. "Luce..." she said in between short breaths.

"What happened to her?" I couldn't help the panic that decided to settle down in my chest. And what escaped her lips then were the words I had expected but hoped wouldn't have been said.

"She's in...the hospital."

I took a deep breath to calm the frantic beating of my heart, my mind clouded with questions of worry and concern. So the rumor really was about her after all.

My first thought was to go straight to the hospital, but I did not have a vehicle to take me there. I'd need to make that 15 minutes walk back home and borrow my dad's bike. My palms started to sweat with concern as I ran over plans to get to Luce fast.
