Chapter 18: The Ace

A/N: You may or may not have noticed it but I changed my user name from --Joseph-Joestar-- to -Rin_-, I was kinda feeling bored with the JoJo username and I decided to change it. If you want me to change it back, I can also do that anytime, so just request it. Okay? And this chapter may be a bit short.

And sorry for the lack of updates. This book was slightly delayed because of a project I was working on. (Possibly a new book)

The break time was almost finished and Hinata and Tanaka were talking about something like "Tsukishima's brother and the little giant..." I guess.

Suga then came and announced that we were starting soon.

Daichi: "Better get going."

Everyone was in the gym and most of them were having practice matches while the others were having practice of their own, including us.

Coach Ukai: "Even when you're not playing a game, there's no time to relax! We're doing spike receives!" He said as he spiked the ball towards Kageyama who was prepared to receive.

Then we played a practice match with Nekoma resulting in us, losing.

Then Tsukishima suddenly came to us with question.

Tsukki: "... Azumane-san, L/N-san, doesn't it bother you..." He asked them.

Asahi/ Y/N: "What...?" They both responded.

Tsukki: "The feeling of someone with strong abilities drawing ever-closer to you." He continued.

Asahi: "Well... I guess it keeps me on my toes." He told him.

Y/N: "... Hinata is likely still fixated on the title of "Ace", you know."

Asahi: "I guess that's why he said, "It's no good the way things are now." Still it feels like that ignited a spark in all of us, me included."

Tsukki: "If you don't watch out, Hinata will concentrate too hard and overtake one of you again."

Asahi: "You mean that time! Hahaha!" He simply laughed about the time he crashed into Hinata.

Y/N: "... Y'know, both of you and I are pretty close to rivaling Hinata when it comes to things like position or role, so we're more attuned to his daily growth than everyone else. But still... I won't let him win against me."

After saying all that I just left both of them to their own thoughts and feelings.

And yet again, Karasuno were having another practice match, this time with Ubugawa. Beside the court where they were playing the coaches of Karasuno were having a conversation.

Coach Ukai: "--Sensei, what do you think of Tsukishima?" He asked Takeda.

Takeda: "....I think he... Does things seriously, but I'm not sure if that's what you're asking...?" He answered him.

"As long as he's getting a passing grade, he doesn't aim for a perfect score." ... That's the sort of feeling I get from him..." He finished.

Coach Ukai: "It's not like I'm looking for him to get all gung-ho, but with this level of ability, he'll likely end up switched out as a regular if he screws up. The members on the court are this who can win the match."

Takeda-sensei gained a look of confusion from the coach's statement.

Coach Ukai: "...Tsukishima is the invaluable tallest of the team. If he could become the pivot point of our blocking, it would increase our defensive power that much more..."

"GOT IT!!/ LEAVE IT TO ME!!" Daichi and Nishinoya shouted, both of them trying to save the ball from hitting the ground clashed, but still got the ball up. They quickly apologized to each other after that.

Along the sidelines, the managers too were having a chat.

Yachi: "E... Everyone's really fired up, huh..." She nervously told Kiyoko.

Kiyoko: "--Since the trip to Tokyo, everyone's been filled with a level of motivation they'd been lacking until now, but sometimes... It can lead to a blunder. Like what happened last time..."

At the court Kageyama just received making him unable to set for this time. As the ball was falling, I quickly made a dive, barely saving the ball.

Y/N: 'Damn it. It's a bit short...!' He thought as he looked up from the floor he was laying on.

Hinata looked like he's about to jump but turned his head left and saw Asahi preparing to spike and he let him as Asahi jumped highly and smashed through the wall made by Ubugawa.

With that one move, Karasuno's ace pulled them all tightly together..!

But in the end we still lost and and now we're just going towards our dorms.

Suga: "Phew... Yet another day of glorious defeat... Tsukishima's just as composed as always." He said looking at Tsukishima who was walking further ahead than everyone else.

Tanaka: "With Tsukishima.. it's like... He should be more... I think he'd be able to pull of all sorts of stuff if he'd just try! That 188 cm is wasted on him.!"

Then Kuroo and Bokuto came and invited Tsukishima again but he declined them this time and as they were also inviting me, I just went along with them.

We went to the 3rd Gymnasium and we just started practicing our blocks and serves.

Kuroo: "Why didn't blondie come with us to practice..." He said, loud enough for us to hear.

Y/N: "Did you already forget that you provoked him."

Kuroo: "Well, to be honest, I thought he was the type of guy to simply get over something..."

Bokuto: "You're obviously wrong about that."

Y/N: "I wonder how long he'll sulk about it.."

Kuroo: "He'll come to his senses, soon I hope."

Our practice session went by quickly as the night went on and after I took a bath I was just laying on my futon looking up at the ceiling with some thoughts in my head.

Y/N: 'I wonder what Nee-chan is doing at Miyagi....? Or Mika...? Nee-chan is probably already dating Oikawa... I'll gain nothing just thinking about it... I'll just go to sleep....... Zzzzzz.....zzzzz'
