Yoon Seri had always been a private person, at least since the day she realized that having other person would only lead to disappointment, or worse, emotional scars. So, she always made do by herself and at times she felt gratitude over the blessings that she had such as her wealth, intelligent and good looks that she seldom needed anyone else. However, things had changed since the day she was stranded in the North of her border; whether it was for the better or worse she hadn't yet decided.
Because the truth was she constantly craved for other people's companion since she left the Ri brothers in Pyongyang International Airport. At first it was her father, who managed, for the first time since a long time, to become a father that she needed. Then it was her employees, who gave her companionships throughout the first two years of her resettling back.
True, they must had done it for the simple fact that she was the one signing their paychecks; but at times she almost believed that they enjoyed their time with her too.
But then her abrupt transfer to Queens Group brought her another change that didn't do her any good. While the people in the company were generally welcoming to her and her fresh leadership, but they were still older organization that had its own strict rules and hierarchy; much like her father's taste. And it left her suffocated at times.
Therefore, she was very grateful with her decision to bring along Manager Hong and her secretary Yeon Mi with her to Queens Group. Gu Seung Jung's addition to her inner circle also had given wonder to her generally lonely life. The three of them had managed to give a little bit of solace and companion that she craved ever since she left the North.
But now she found that their companionship were nothing compared with the solace Ri Jeong Hyeok brought with him the moment they reunited at that cold Gangnam street. While he brought with him the worst news that she could think of, the one she still struggled to process, but his presence alone was enough to bring new meaning of warmth into her life.
Because he was so attentive to her and her needs. While the first night was so exhausting to both of them, it seemed to do wonder to his earlier icy exterior. After the third night of continuously troubled sleeping, they had forgone the pretense of wanting to sleep in different room. However, Ri Jeong Hyeok, ever the gentleman, tried to reason with her that they couldn't sleep in the same bed.
Therefore, Seri ordered a big daybed to be installed in her bedroom, not 3 steps from her own bed and it seemed to satisfy his insistence on propriety. During these first days, Seri tried very hard to not think about the fact that Ri Mu Hyeok was no longer in this world because it hurt so much just to be reminded of it. However, after sometimes she found it was hard to do so when Jeong Hyeok didn't waste any time to start his investigation.
True to his words, he started his work on the Seoul underground the second day he came. He pleaded with Seri to not step outside while he tried to settle the perimeter and tried to locate how far Cho Cheol Gang had infiltrated her city. Seri, of course, protested. Because she had obligations to fulfil and works to be done. After a heated debate, and the clear fact that Ri Jeong Hyeok was simply feared of her safety, she relented and arranged the necessity so she could work from home the first few days.
It felt eerily like the days when she was trapped in the North.
Jeong Hyeok would always wake up earlier than her, and made her breakfast before he hastily left the house. Seri had arranged that he had access to her apartment, an untraceable credit card and after much debate, his own motorcycle. She had offered a car, but Jeong Hyeok declined, saying motorcycle would be better for his mobility.
During the day, Seri would be stuck in her study with her sophisticated video conference set up it felt like she was in her own office in Queens Group Headquarter. For lunch, she would reheat whatever left from their breakfast, which seemed to be Jeong Hyeok's intention since he always cooked for three portions or more. Her works did wonder to take her mind off of Mu Hyeok's death.
