Chapter 12: The Birthday Girl

Jeong Hyeok felt a little disoriented as he blinked his eyes open and saw a smooth white ceiling on top of him. But the feeling of highest quality pillow and high-count thread winter duvet immediately reminded him that he was on Seri's bed. He smiled upon the realization but frowned when he saw an empty spot beside him.

He sat on the bed and realized that Seri was already on her walk-in wardrobe. Glancing to the clock on the bedside table, he frowned when realizing it was barely 6 in the morning.

"Seri-ah?" he called, and Seri emerged from the room-sized wardrobe, already dressed for the day.

"You're going out now? It's so early" he asked, and Seri smiled. She walked towards the bed and sat beside him.

"Yeah, I have a breakfast meeting with some of the CEOs and then I will go straight to the office," then she added, "Sorry I woke you up, you're not on the roster today, right?"

Jeong Hyeok nodded and reclined back on the headboard. Yesterday had been brutal for both of them. Seri had meetings lined up until quite late in the night, while Jeong Hyeok was held up by his discussion with Mr. Kim over their newest investigation. They only reached the apartment close to midnight, that almost all of her apartment's occupants was already sleeping. They both decided to not beat around the bush and proceeded to get ready to bed in her room together. But they were already so tired that the thought of doing any monkey business was vanished the moment they touched the mattress.

Therefore, Jeong Hyeok felt a bit down that Seri had to get up as early as today; but he had learnt his lesson not to be pouty over silly things like not getting any from Seri. He nodded while taking her hand and put it on his lips.

"But I think I can go to the office a little later in the afternoon," he then added, "Will you stay late in the office today too?"

Seri sighed. "Yeah, most likely. I have meetings lined up until at least 5 pm. Then I need to have a discussion with my lawyers regarding the current issues my brother seemed to be choked up with." She then added, "I swear if I can swap one of my brothers with 5 Pyo Chi Su, I'll be the happiest woman in the world"

Jeong Hyeok chuckled and kept nuzzling her palm with his lips. Seri in turned cupped his cheeks and smiled warmly.

"Although, of course, I'll be the happiest if I can have this, every morning on my bed" she said and Jeong Hyeok closed his eyes while tightening his hold on her hand.

"We'll be there, Seri-ah. I promise" he said gruffly, "But it will take time, my love."

Seri nodded solemnly and brought his head down so their lips met in a tender tangle.

"I've waited more than three decades to have you in my life, I can wait a couple decades more, Ri Jeong Hyeok-ssi" she then added, "You're worth the wait."

Jeong Hyeok looked up and was floored when seeing Seri with the most wistful stare in her eyes. Gently, he reached out and traced her lips.

"Even if I pout and sulk when my sister-in-law cock-blocked us?" he asked, and Seri almost choke in her laughter. He followed with a chuckle himself, remembering just how childish he was the few days before.

"Well, your sister-in-law is really something, so I will give you that. Though," she added with a frown, "I need to have a word with Gu Seung Jung about these crass words he seemed to impart to you"

Jeong Hyeok only laughed but didn't say anything. While it was true that he had been spending more time with the Gu Seung Jung since he always seemed to hang around Seri's apartment nowadays, but he didn't think it was a good idea to tell his lover that he had his own set of vulgar words and didn't need any help from Gu Seung Jung. If Seri thought of him as a perfect gentleman, he'd rather like to keep that image of himself intact until she found out about it herself. Hopefully, they would already by very far down the line that the fact Ri Jeong Hyeok was perfectly capable of swearing wouldn't turn off her love for him.
