The night sped by, and before we new it it was almost curfew. I got most of my clothes back, although I was missing my belt and right sock. I got my bag to leave, and he threw me my phone.
"You have a lot of missed calls, you know." He says, leaning back on his bed. I checked it, most of them were from my friends.
"It's just Charlie." I say looking around the room, double checking for my belt. "I hope they didn't look for you in your room." He snickers, watching me. I freeze, considering that possibility.
The bell then rings throughout the building, signifying curfew. I gave up on finding my things, about to leave his room when I see a familiar paper on his desk.
"Hey, we never finished your career plan." I say, picking it up.
"I guess you'll just have to come back then." He shrugs. "See ya tomorrow, teach."
I smile back at him, then close the door behind me.
Charlie, Owen and Gorge had all gotten girlfriends on their cafe trip. That meant we spent a lot less time together. Needless to say, I spent a lot of my of time studying with Axel. It got me to the point where I only felt truly comfortable with him.
A few months had passed, and spring break was now just around the corner.
The school closed during spring break, sending all the students home. I didn't turn eighteen for another two months, so I'd be staying with my Aunt and Uncle. My Aunt was an interesting person. She was often baking treats in the kitchen, making more than enough for her and my Uncle. I was looking forward to helping eat the treats she made.
"A couple more days until spring break, huh?" Gorge says, poking a straw into his apple juice. We all were sprawled out on the floor of Charlies room, talking to each other.
"Make sure to throw away that wrapper." Owen says, polishing a half eaten apple.
"You guys are lucky you're staying in London." Charlie sighs, rolling and bumping into Gorge. "I have to go to America to see my Dad. All that fried food will make me fat."
"It's only two weeks," I remind him, taking a bite of my biscuit.
"Say, Jay. When are you getting a girlfriend? You're like a lot better looking than Gorge and Owen, at least. In fact I'm surprised you don't already have one." Charlie comments, earning glares from them.
"Don't be an idiot." I say, crumbling my biscuit in his hair. He yelps, getting up to brush them off.
"Charlie, that was my only biscuit. Why'd you have to go and waste it?" I complain, attacking his knees from the ground.
"It was your fault!" Charlie accuses, kicking me away.
"You're getting crumbs on the floor." Owen says, brushing them into his hand.
"Give them to me!" Gorge pleads, throwing his juice box at Owen.
"Don't eat them, Gorge they're mine!" I say, throwing him to the ground. It was too late; he was already shoving the crumbs that had been in Charlies hair and on the floor, into his mouth.
We stayed there for a while, talking about our plans for spring break. Owen and Gorge were staying at their parents house, but Charlie was already eighteen which meant he'd take over his family company as soon as school ended.
We only had two months left of senior year, which meant I would have to spend it learning how to be a money manager like my father. I wasn't at all excited for it, but it was better then having no job and ruining the family name.
I subconsciously made my way across campus to Axels dorm, when I noticed James sitting on a bench. He spotted me waving me over.
"What's up, Prez?" I shudder, Charlies informal speech was wearing off on me. He smiles, gesturing for me to sit next to him.
"Sorry to bother you, Jason. I just thought I should congratulate you on your excellent grades. I hear you made Honor Role this semester." He says, patting me on the head.
"James, you're literally freaking me out. You're not acting like yourself ." I say, scooting away from his hand on my head.
"Ah, I'm sorry. I'm especially not good at this sort of thing, Nathan was supposed to do this for me." He sighs, shuffling his feet on the ground.
"Um, are you okay?" I say, heavy concern in my voice.
"Will you join the student council?" He says, staring me dead in the eyes.
"Me, the student council? I wouldn't fit in at all. Besides, aren't all the positions taken?" I say, surprised. He shakes his head, taking out a folded paper from his pocket.
"Nathan quit due to family issues, so the spot for secretary has opened up." He says, and points to a list of students and their grades. "See? You're one of the top seven students in this school academically, so you're the next obvious choice."
"Listen, I really appreciate the offer, but I guarantee there's someone else better for the job." I say, standing up. Plus, If I was occupied with the student council, Axel would have to study by himself...
"Yeah, I'm not the person for this. I'm sorry James." I say, walking away from him. Now then, to see what Axel was up to. His class ended in about ten minutes, so I'd surprise him in his room.
