Patton's POV

There once was a bittersweet man and they called him, "Lemon Boy".
He was growing in my garden and I pulled him out by his hair like a weed.
And like weeds do, he only came back and grew back again,
So I figured this time I might as well let him be.

I listened to the song Lemon Boy play through Virgil's headphones (that I totally didn't steal). I was laying on my back in my room. I would catch myself thinking about a certain snake boy lately, and the song would remind me of my relationship with him.

"*sigh* Janus..."

Lemon boy and me started to get along together.
I helped him plant his seeds and we'd mow the lawn in bad weather.
It's actually pretty easy, being nice to a bitter boy like him.
So, I got myself a citrus friend.

"Yes, Patton?" I heard someone say. I looked at my door to see the one side I was thinking about. I must've said his name out loud by accident.

"Oh, I don't need anything. I was just, uh..." I had to think quickly, he was getting suspicious. I got an idea. "Oh wait, that's right! I wanted to bake something with you! do you wanna help me?" I asked quickly. He frowned slightly.

"Patton, I'm the best when it comes to baking." He noted.

"Don't worry! We can find a recipe in my cookbook. All you have to do listen to my instructions. It'll be easy!" I grabbed his gloved hand and ran to the kitchen. I could hear him sigh in defeat behind me.

But soon his bittersweet started to rub off on me.
You'd think smelling like lemon zest would be pretty neat.
I found out that my friends were more of the savory type,
And they weren't too keen on compromising with a nice lemon pie.

We stopped at the kitchen and I let go of Janus' hand reluctantly. I don't think if you could tell, But I may have a tiny crush on him...

...

...

OK OK! I love him. Back to the story now.

I summoned my cookbook and handed it to Janus. "Here, pick something to bake." I walked forward into the kitchen and grabbed my apron that said "All You Knead Is Love". I tied it in the back with a bow.

So Lemon Boy and me, we just gotta get along together
I helped him plant his seeds, And we'll mow the lawn in bad weather
It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him
So, I got myself a citrus friend

"Did you pick something?" I asked Janus, who was flipping through the pages in the cookbook. He stopped at a page and smiled. The page said Lemon Layer Cake with Buttercream Icing

"What about this?" He asked, blushing slightly. I smiled.

"Perfect, You can work on the Icing, and I'll work on the cake!" I declared. Janus handed me the book and I put it on the holder.

But what if I run out of fertilizer?
What if the clouds run out of rain?
What if Lemon Boy won't grow no longer?
What if beaches dry of sugar cane?
Oh well

A few minutes later, I put the cake in the oven and Janus finished on the icing. He was actually really good at this whole baking thing, No matter how much he denies it.

Come to think of it, now would be a great time to confess...

The whales start to beach themselves
Tortoiseshells tear away from their spines
It happens all the time, it happens all the time.

We were quiet as I thought of how to do it. It was hard enough talking to him about this subject.

"Are you mad at me?" This brought me out of my thoughts. I looked at Janus.

"Why would I be mad at you, Kiddo?" I asked, he hung his head.

"Well, you keep trying to avoid me, so I thought I did something wrong." he quietly fretted, playing with the hem of his shirt. I've never seen Janus like this. So nervous, like Virgil.

"I'm not mad, it's just that, well," I quickly replied. I remembered what Virgil said when he was revealing his name. Just like a bandaid. "I have a crush on you. Actually, scratch that. I love you."

It was a minute before Janus responded. That minute felt like forever.

Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever
Like Snufkin and little my, we'll get around wherever
Lemon Boy and I, we're gonna live forever
Like Snufkin and little my, we'll get around wherever

"For how long?" He asked.

"Well, remember when you told everyone your name and I turned into a giant frog?" I asked sheepishly. He nodded. "It kinda grew from then. I've been avoiding you because I was nervous."

He stepped a little closer and looked me in eyes. I stared back into his eyes. One brown, the other yellow. Beautiful. I got lost very quickly.

"I love you too."

He leaned in a little closer. I felt his warm breath on my lips.

"Can I kiss you?"

It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter boy like him
'Cause we're the bitterest boys in town
Yeah, we're the bitterest guys around
And I got myself a citrus friend

I nodded. He leaned in the rest of the way and kissed me sweetly. Long story short, We bake all the time together now.
