Gabriela's POV
I stopped walking and exhaled deeply when I saw the cavern that we have been looking for.
"We are here," I said as Darren slipped me a curious glance.
Finally, I can unlock the secret of this place. There must be treasure inside. That's the only thing that I can think of why Arturo was so keen to go here.
"What are you waiting for? Let's go inside," Arturo shouted eagerly to his men. I gazed at Timothy, Darren I mean, and he nodded at me. We walked one by one inside the cavern and Arturo's men turn on their flashlights to illuminate the place. It was cold inside and bats were hanging at the overhead interior surface of the cavern. The floors were wet and stalagmites protruding from the floor. As we advanced, bats wings began to fluttered and they flew towards us. I ducked down to avoid the little mammals and Darren tried to cover me.
We continued to venture the place until we were at the dead end. Apparently, it is not easy as it is, because a manmade barricade impedes our access to move more further.
"F*ck you, Enrique!" Arturo thundered as he thump his stick. I looked closely at the gate and it was made of heavy metal.
"Destroy this gate!" Arturo ordered furiously and all of his men get their tools trying to destroy the gate.
"I found something!" One of the men shouted as he lift his hand holding a piece of paper. He gave it to Arturo and he read it, "What goes through a door but never goes in and never comes out?"
It's definitely a riddle. What goes through a door but never goes in and never comes out? Surely, it's a keyhole.
The world stopped as I realize something. There must be a keyhole on the gate, and the necklace with the key that Dad gave me will unlock it.
"Are you listening girl! What does it mean?! Your f*king father is still playing with me even in his grave!" Arturo was in a rage and looks murderous.
"Answer me!" He threatened as he advance at me grabbed his gun.
Every inch of my muscle tensed and my chest stuttered because of the panic that engulfed me. He will kill me even I told him the answer. I need to do my escape plan now!
"It's a ke-" I was cut off when a series of gunshots stormed.
It was like we're in the inferno battling unseen enemies. The danger made my adrenaline rushed into my veins. I plunged and crawled on the corner where an unconscious man lying down. I tried to grab his gun but unfortunately, he woke up and strangled me. I punched him in his gut but the devil was solid as a rock. I can't die here! I gathered all my strength and kicked him on his ribs. His face contorted in pain, however, this made him tighten his grip on my neck more. I tried to remove his hands as the air in my lungs was slowly fading. My head felt dizzy and my strength began to abandon my body. I felt hopeless but the man suddenly removed his grip and collapse. Darren rushed on me and embraced me. He shoot the man and saved my life.
He removed his arms around me and looked at me as he removed his mask. My eyes widen as seen his face. It was really him.
"Are you okay little tiger?" Timothy asked worriedly.
"I know it's you," I replied as tears began to form in my eyes. I want to hug him and kissed him but we can't afford to do it right now. We were in the middle of the war.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and took a deep breath. We can survive this.
"We need to go out of here," I said while grabbing the gun on the floor. Timothy nodded and held my other hand.
As we sprinted outside the cavern, the view became clearer and I can see Arturo's men advancing to us. They were raining bullets on us. We hid on the tree and made it as a barricade.
There's no good in just hiding. We need to retaliate. Timothy shoot them back and I did the same. More of their men falling as they advanced to us but they were still on advantage because there were a lot of them.
"Get the girl alive! I need her to open the gate!" Arturo yelled angrily. The men began to advance to us. My sweats trickled down my spine knowing I was running out of ammo.
"I need you to run little tiger as fast as you can. I will meet you at the bridge but you need to hide while waiting for me," Timothy exclaimed while shooting.
"But I can't leave you here! You need help!" I opposed as leaned on the tree. I was out of ammo now but I still need to help Timothy. I can't leave him here alone again.
"Don't worry about me I can handle this and I'm not alone," he stopped shooting and gazed at me. His eyes were pleading and I find it hard to say no to him.
I looked at my surroundings and saw two men shooting on our side. One was Albreach and the other man was Reynold, the old guard of Arturo. They were helping us but why?
"Gabriela, you need to go now. I promised I will meet you at the bridge," Timothy pleaded as he handed me a gun. I looked at Timothy hesitantly and finally nodded.
"Be safe here. I love you," I said quickly and kissed his cheeks. I could see a shadow of a smile on his face.
"I love you too," he replied and exhaled as he shoot our enemies. I gazed at him for the last time and then sprinted away. I must go to the bridge and wait for Timothy there. I know he will keep his promise and I will keep mine too.
I was almost at the old bridge when one of the men of Arturo suddenly emerged. My eyes widen as I recognized him. The sinister smile and a dragon tattooed painted on his arms. The man that I thought killed my father. He was twice my size, not, even more, he was thrice of my size. My first instinct was to shoot him but he evaded it. Then, he darted towards me and kicked the gun of my hand. I was caught off guard and thankfully recovered instantly.
I quickly move a distance from him, staying out of the striking range as I clenched my hands and position myself in a fighting stance.
"You're brave girl," he laughed but cut off when punched his face. His lips bled and his face turned dangerous as he wipe the blood. I won't go down without a fight. I distance myself again but he's becoming aggressive and attack me with a punch but I ducked it out. As long as I keep moving around quickly and keep my distance from him, I still have a chance to defeat him.
"I don't usually fight with a girl, but you make me angry," he scowled. I saw an opening and without a second thought, I maneuver and kicked him on his gut. The bastard didn't even flinch but instead, he gripped my foot and twisted it. I was sweep on the ground and my foot was painful. But I need to endure this in order to live. So, I quickly stood up even though my foot hurts. He moved forward and punched me but I managed to dodge it and knee his groin.
He was like a wounded animal groaning in pain while crouching down. It's time for me to escape but the bastard recovered quickly and attacked me. His eyes were murderous and he looks like ready to kill. He pushed me hard on the ground and went above me as he strangled me. I tapped his arms forcefully and but he won't let go. I kneed his stomach but he didn't even react. Air started to abandoned my lungs and I feel weak as seconds passed by.
Is it my end?
