Chapter 6

"...And this here's my baby." Trudy patted the hood of the ginormous helicopter proudly, smirking. I crossed my arms, admiring the sturdiness of the vehicle. I had considered becoming a pilot before joining the avatar program. "Hatch's hanging crooked, you better fix that," Trudy warned the crew tweaking on the helicopter, who nodded nervously. Grace may be the queen of biology and avatar driving, but out here on the runway, Trudy was the boss, and I admired her badass attitude. "That's a lot of heavy gear you're packing," Jake noted. She stopped as we almost got run into by a transport moving missiles. "Watch it!" Trudy cried. 

"Yeah, that's because we're not the only thing flying out there." She answered, bending under some pipes. "Or the biggest." I added on. Trudy nodded, smirking with approval. "I never caught your name." She said to me. "Oh, I'm Rei, Rei Willows." I introduced myself, shaking hands with her firmly. "Heard your name pop up in some of the crew's conversations. You've only been here a couple days and you've already either scared or perked the interest of half the people here, me included. Nice to finally meet ya." She smiled. I blushed, slightly embarrassed. "Yeah, I got a bit pissed off at Selfridge." I admitted, nervously rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. "I admire that." She complimented. "Jake, I'm gonna need you on a door gun, I'm a man short." She said to Jake, who nodded. "Yeah, no problem." Trudy smirked and tapped fists with Jake. I smiled as we strolled towards the gym, where Quaritch was lifting weights. "I'll leave ya to it, marine. Don't say anything stupid. See ya on the flight-line, zero nine." Trudy teased before striding confidently back to her helicopter, me following. "So, you coming tomorrow?" Trudy asked. "Why the hell wouldn't I?" I replied.
