Adrian's POV
(AN - I think this is how he'd really narrate because he's silent and stoic most of the time.)
The conversation with the principal was short and direct to the point. The principal gave Jenny and her friends a 3 day suspension because they were supernatural beings (werewolves) that picked on Ray, a human. At that point, Jenny argued back and said Ray was weird and all. My blood started boiling as I thought to myself, does Jenny know anything about Ray's secret? I wanted to tell her to shut up but Damien beat me to it by giving a great growl as he moved in front of Ray.
This made me snap. I barely remembered jumping at Damien (which was a bad idea). I'm the only one that should defend Ray!
I woke up several minutes later with a severe headache as I blearily saw Damien looking at me guiltily. His right hand still curled into a fist. No wonder my head ached like hell. It was then I felt soft thighs craddling me. Craning my head back, I saw Jenny look down with a dog-gnawing-a-bone grin. I wanted to smack my head in frustration. She must be thinking that I was protecting her. In reality I was jealous at Damien for being close to my mate.
My mate.
Jenny shifted her legs a bit and from her, a scent wafted that placed me in heat. I'm getting more confused. My body reacted to Jenny's scent, but my heart raced for Ray.
"Adrian?" Ray peeked from behind Damien. Matthew's mate was small and short but Ray was even shorter. Pink-red eyes framed by soft white bangs looked down at me. His face was devoid of any expression, a side effect of missing the essence of his heart. However somehow I just knew that Ray was disappointed and sad.
I struggled to get up to comfort my mate and I got held back. Jenny had her fingers latched on to my biceps, her fingernails etched my skin and eyes blazed furiously between me and Ray. I shook my arms strong enough to make her slip and walked away from her. Jenny whimpered angrily as she started to transform. I looked at her bracelets in alarm, they weren't on her wrists anymore.
"That's enough!" Principal Bostwick's voice was quiet but terse enough to snap Jenny back into human form. Even Damien eyed the Principal warily. The same Damien that was capable of handling several fully formed gamma werewolves. I got scared too. Everyone knows who Principal Bostwick is. Underneath that jovial smile and girth lies a real dragon. One of the few of his kind and they're not to be taken lightly.
"It looks like I'll be modifying my order after all." Principal Bostwick said with a small smile. Jenny looked hopeful and held her breath. "Jenny, you won't have 3 days of suspension." Jenny smiled. "Make that 5 days. That's additional 1 day for each bracelet you broke. You know the rules. As for the rest of you-" Principal Bostwick's voiced droned on.
To make it short, Damien and I have 1 day of in-school suspension. Which sucks because here it means school chores! The rest of the cheerleaders got their 3 days of suspension. Basically everyone except Ray and Miki got suspensions.
We all filed out and as I passed by Miki I growled under my breath. "Watch over him." Miki only sniffed at me. "Please?" I saw her features soften and she nodded slightly.
Satisfied, I passed by Ray and resisted the urge to hug him into my arms. I still couldn't, not with Jenny just right in front of me.
This was one big headache. I just hope Matthew still wants me as his Beta. I wouldn't make myself Beta with a baggage of this size.
Jenny's POV
That white haired fag! I screamed in my head as I pasted a smile on my face. I do have to keep up appearances if I want to be prom queen. Adrian isn't the soon to be Alpha of an influential pack but he's plenty famous enough for his cool head in football and other activities. Since Matthew, the most popular guy in school is now mated to a guy (no way that fag Damien will be nominated prom queen!), it's only right as the mate of his soon to be Beta to become prom queen. Me! I chortled silently as I sent a bright smile to a group of freshmen. Some of them were werewolves from my pack. By the time I passed them, they were whispering to each other excitedly, about me. I smiled smugly inside.
Jenny Moriarty, no one is stopping you this year!
"Wait." A clipped voice almost made me trip. Who dared to make me stop? I whirled around and broke into a sweat as I finally saw the owner of the voice.
"Follow me." Came the order from a tall red-haired woman wearing red stilletos. Looking around, I reluctantly followed her into a room.
The red-haired woman snapped her head back. "Close the door. Normally I'd snap my fingers to close it but no sense in stirring the Dragon's anger, right?" Red lips pulled back to show a white smile and the room rippled.
Witchcraft!
There was something unnatural at the intensity of her smile in the same way the owner was unique. Most witches gave themselves grand names like the World witches named North, South, East and West. Or something poofy, like the Cooking witch of some place. The red-haired woman in front me simply called herself, the Witch.
I cleared my throat as silently as I could. "What do you want? We've already paid you tribute."
"Relax." The witch smiled at me. "I just want to remind you not to go near that boy Ray, if you don't want things to get-" She wrinkled her nose with a smile. "I dunno, bloody?"
I sucked in large amounts of hair. "We made a deal! You're supposed to-"
The witch suddenly snarled and dashed towards me, one red manicured hand plunging into my chest. "I kept my end of the deal you and your family haven't! Maybe I should find someone else?" Her hand tightened on my heart and my breatch hitched. "It's been years since I got you this heart, girl and you haven't mated with that Adrian." The hand tightened more and my breath came out in a rush.
"P-p-please, give me time." I whimpered at her. "Most dominant werewolves mark their mate at the age of 18, that's only a few days away for Adrian!" I said desperately. The witch only looked back at me with a flat expression.
Finally the bands on my heart loosened and I stumbled back. My heart! Mine! Mine! Mine! I clutched at my chest, afraid that my heart would be taken away from me.
"It took me a lot of time to find Adrian's real mate and rip his heart out you know." The witch said casually as she walked to the nearest chair. "A lot of werewolf families would itch just to have their bitches become Luna to the Alpha. Whoops, I meant the Beta's mate, poor things they don't even have a real title."
I glared at her as my feet gave way and I sagged to the cool floor. "Since you were going to steal a ticker, couldn't you have gotten the heart of Matthew's mate?"
The witch pursed her lips thoughtfully. "You mean the omega? I didn't think you'd want the heart of one in you. "
My eyes widened at the revelation. What I knew was that Damien and his Mom were runaways, pitiful traitors who were declared by the pack Elders as outcasts afterwards.
"I think," I swallowed hard. "I'm fine with this one."
"Good," The red-haired witch stood up and walked past me towards the door. With one hand on the knob, she half-faced me. "Now do your job or else I'll return the heart to its owner."
I only heard a small click of the lock as fear consumed me. The truth is, I'm the heartless one. A rogue raid that Alpha Marcus barely fended off ended up with me stabbed on the chest and my bestfriend dead trying to protect me. As I was dying, the Witch approached my distraught parents and offered a two in one deal. A new heart for me and revenge against Alpha Marcus.
If the witch took back this heart, I'm not sure I'd survive. But what made my chest hurt more was that I'd lose Adrian. Somehow I learned to love him. Or maybe Ray's heart was making me think that.
