"James, you don't even know if you're getting picked. Besides, never will you ever leave this dorm wearing those." Remus sighed from behind a transfiguration book, James had been tearing apart his wardrobe for some suitable muggle clothes if he got picked to go with Lily.

"She's already read my poem, now once she see's all my muggle appreciation our love will be inevitable!" He smiled a dopey smile, holding onto the feathers round his neck.

That's right. Feathers. For some reason James thought a mixture of Peter's old halloween costumes and some of Sirius' black jeans were muggle worthy. Remus had been trying all morning to let him down gently, but that hadn't worked obviously.

"You've probably ruined Sirius' trousers, too" Remus called out, secretly quite annoyed at the fact. Those were some tight jeans and will be dearly missed in charms.

"He's got loads" James waved him off, jumping in front of the mirror again.

"Look, do you want some help?"

"Yes please!" James spun around, running and sitting next to Remus expectantly.

"Okay well.." Remus went over to James' trunk, "What about the stuff you wear on September 1st?"

"Ugh, it's so boring

"Yes well sorry being a muggle is so ordinary," Remus threw a pair of blue jeans at him, "but it will have to do."

"Okay, I will wear the jeans but..." James looked around, eyes settling on one of Remus' long sleeved, plaid shirts, "Can I wear that!?"

Remus looked over at him exhaustedly, "Yes you can. Can I go back to our homework now?"

"Mhm." He replied distractedly, admiring himself in the mirror again.

"Honestly" Remus rolled his eyes.

"We better go meet Sirius and Pete in the great hall" James said after a few minutes. It was Saturday evening and Dumbledore was drawing names during dinner. The man really had a thing for drawing names...

"Right, yeah" Remus didn't know why he was nervous. He was putting his name in a hat, hardly a difficult task. It was something about the significance, if there even was any. How Sirius had come straight to him, to ask him to come along. Remus was obviously tolerable if Sirius wanted him around all day...

Maybe even more.

No.

"Let's go"

The great hall empty this early, looking the same as any other day, apart from the upended top hat on Dumbledore's podium. James had been walking awfully quickly and Remus was right to fear the worst.

"I've a plan, you know" He muttered while fumbling with the buttons on his sleeve. It had taken Remus a lot of persuading to convince James to wear his uniform to dinner, and not the muggle clothes.

"Please be rational"

"Hah!" James grinned, practically skipping into the hall. Remus didn't seem to register the fact he'd stuck something on the door behind them.

Sirius and Peter were already at the table, throwing boiled carrots like nobody's business.

Remus managed to catch Sirius' arm before he threw a particularly large one at Peter, seeing Flitwick from the corner of his eye, "I doubt you want detention the day of your task?"
