Despite the evergrowing pit in my stomach and inability to find my balance, I latch onto a cold wall of the metal box which I appear to be trapped in, refusing to let go. Even with all my memories gone I know I was put here for a reason and I was not about to make it easy for whoever's decision that was.
Finally, after a few more minutes go by, I feel the eery elevator come to an abrupt halt at the top of the seemingly large ceiling. Just above me, two doors slide apart revealing a bright blue sky, so blue in fact that one could even say it was almost fake, or graphic. I notice an all-too bright of a sun shining down but before I'm able to take in the rest of my surroundings, the shuffling of feet and light grunts make me freeze. Around ten or so teenage boys that I'm guessing to be around my age (although how old was I?) hastily run up to the opening in the ceiling and stare wide-eyed at me.
I hear incredulous gasps fill the air, "Holy shuck its a girl"
And "Dibs, she's HOT!"
And whispers of, "What's that doing here...its not even time for the box to come up yet"
And "Alby you better come down here quick!"
One particularly crude boy with eyebrows that looked like two birds trying to fly off his face snickered, "Maybe its the creator's way of letting us know its time to reproduce."
A few laughs followed but I grimaced my face in disgust. Ugh, apparently men are just as gross in this weird apocalyptic world as they are anywhere.
More boys stuck their heads down and bewildered at me, filling the air with dumbass questions and remarks and it soon got to me so before really thinking it through, I yelled, "HEY! Shut it before I get up there and make you myself."
More yelling on their side broke out although some boys backed away hurriedly while others yelled more nasty things my way.
"She's right, shut it you shanks or it'll be a night in the slammer for you" I suddenly heard an accented voice which slightly rang a bell in my brain, but I pushed the reminiscing thought away.
"Newt, you're second in command, where the hell is Alby?" eyebrow boy (the nickname I now assigned to the dumbass who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut) jeered again looking scornfully towards the direction of the boy with the accent. I noticed a tinge of jealousy in his voice when he noted the "second in command" part, probably because something like that would likely take a toll on his ego.
"There's a new greenie down there but its a girl and she's kinda feisty" he eyed me with a suggestive grin.
The boy with the accent, to which eyebrow boy referred to as Newt quickly replied, "Alby had something important to get to...in the maze" he added and lifted his eyebrows to show that this was not a matter for the others to try to interfere with.
"None of you lots' buissness anyway" he added with a stern look.
Some of the boys' expressions changed from mocking and curious to solemn and even worried. What was going on? A maze? Is that the whole big deal of this place I was obviously mistakenly brought to? Well how hard could it be, honestly, everyone knows that the key to finding your way out of a maze was to stick to one side and follow it through until making it out. But, maybe eveyone didn't know that, did they?
I was snapped out of my thoughts when someone jumped down in my direction and landed to my left, with a soft thud. It was the boy with the accent, whose appearance I could now take in to be of much resemblance to a pretty muscular stick, tall and skinny with scruffy dirty blonde hair. He might've been a little attractive, but there's no way in hell I was about to let him know that.
