Its been a while since I had an opportunity to write, and I had gotten snagged a bit on one part, but here is the chapter! I hope you all enjoy it!
Blood Born
Chapter 5 – Game on
Mar. 27, 2015
There’s a frustration that is building inside of me and I don’t know exactly where it is coming from. I’m frustrated with Jonathan, but I don’t truly care enough to actually allow it to affect me like this is. There’s something else that is frustrating me. I just wish I knew what it was.
“No. You’re doing it wrong. You’ve got to concentrate. If you don’t concentrate you won’t be able to get anywhere.”
Frustration hung around her like a second skin and Jana just couldn’t take it anymore. Standing, she faced the two men that couldn’t seem to leave her alone, not matter how nicely she asked, or how loudly she screamed at them. “Concentration would be much easier if you weren’t in here speaking, whispering every few seconds about every change in my body language. Besides, I’m done. I’m going to take a break. I’m hungry.”
Luca immediately stepped toward her. “I’ll take you to-”
“No. I’m going alone. And I’ll go where I want to go. I have my own life, one I created in the freedom of the Elite.” Looking at the shocked, and slightly angry faces of both men, she sighed. “I’ll see you both tomorrow. And, if you want any progress at all, then I suggest you think of a different way of expressing your opinions. We can get into other’s minds for a reason, you know? It’s my suggestion that you use that particular ability to your advantage in the morning. Also, we’ll be starting earlier, let’s say five. We’ll only be working for a few hours. I have a feeling that I will be making plans for the rest of the day, and Luca still has school and training he must attend to.”
Luca immediately began protesting, but she waved the protests away. “You have not gotten to the point that you can use your strongest ability without it draining you. You are afraid of its power, and thus it controls you. Until you can control it you are vulnerable and quite helpless. Perhaps you shouldn’t just be focusing on other’s abilities. Perhaps it would be in your best interest to work on your own.”
Turning, Jana left the school, knowing she would soon be joined. Once she was beyond the barriers of the school grounds, she was open to anyone, so long as she allowed herself to be so vulnerable. A few seconds after she was free she was joined by another, someone good at keeping pace with her to the point that their steps sounded almost exactly as hers did.
“I had a feeling it wouldn’t take long for you to seek me out. The way I left things so unsettled would never satisfy you. I had hoped you would leave it as it was, but I knew you wouldn’t. You have always craved information too much for your own good.” She didn’t ask him what he wanted; she already knew the answer. It was an obvious thing to her, something she hadn’t even needed to look inside his mind to find.
“You know that I don’t trust Jonathan.” That was all he said. No pretense of an explanation, no apology for invading her life, and definitely no false surprise at her words. He was still the same man.
“You also know that he is my father. One thing you may not know, is that I am the key to finding my mother, and he is the key to knowing how to do that. But, you also know that I don’t trust him, never have. From the beginning something felt… off about him, and there still is something, I just haven’t been able to figure it out. His mind is not an easy one to get into, though I can, and it is much harder to navigate around the memories and thoughts. If I knew everything about him, understood him, then there would be no reason for me to be here. As it is, I still need him.”
