Natural Born
Chapter 3 - A Courtship
Sep. 1, 2014 continued…
I know I already wrote in here earlier today, and I don’t usually write a second time for any day, but a lot has happened since then. Not only did I get a ride to school with the famous Kool Kid Lena, but I found out Luca, the guy I met at the mall, is also a Kool Kid. Its bad enough that I ran into him again, and I now know his name, but its even worse that he's popular and everyone knows him, well, everyone except me. How did I not know about him? I mean, the signs are everywhere, and everyone is talking about them. How could I have missed it? Oh, and to make the situation a million times worse, Luca wanted to court me. Of course I said no, but I think he might still be planning on doing something. He did apologize, though didn’t specify what it was for, just that it was for something he was going to do in the future. Thankfully, he didn't ask where I lived, so there's no way he'll know where to find me.
Jana didn't know if the universe was just trying to laugh at her, but the doorbell rang through the house right at that moment.
It couldn't be him, he didn't know where she lived, right? But she wasn't expecting anyone else. Just as the thought entered her mind she pushed it out. She definitely hadn't been expecting him to show up.
"Jana," Her bedroom door opened. "Your guest has arrived, and he suggested that you grab a jacket." Her father's eyes were lighter than they had been for a while. "Next time though, would you mind giving your mother and I a heads-up that a nice man is coming to take you out." Maybe the situation only just registered in his mind because he suddenly stood straighter. "Lets go downstairs."
The command in his voice left no room for argument. There was also a part of Jana that wanted to go with Luca, for she knew that’s who was at the door, simply because her father seemed just a little bit happier.
When they got to the living room Luca stood and smiled, a smile that actually seemed genuine. "You look beautiful."
All she did was roll her eyes; she looked exactly like she did at school, except for the fact that her hair was down.
At school her hair was always pulled back one way or another, but when she got home she liked to let it loose. Sometimes it felt nice to have it hanging down past her shoulders. Her hair was frustratingly straight, even if she took the time to curl it, but it was smooth. That's what she liked most about it.
In the past, she remembered sitting there and just brushing her hair so she could feel how smooth it was. It was always best when it was freshly brushed.
"I'll allow you to take my daughter out, but she has to be home no later than ten, you both still have school tomorrow. And you have to have other people with you. No pairing off. And definitely no funny business. She's still my little girl."
Maybe that was the sentence she was supposed to reprimand her dad for embarrassing her, but she didn't see a reason to. If Luca respected her father even a little bit, then she'd at least not have to worry about another situation like the one in the gym earlier that day. He couldn’t get her alone to talk about anything.
"Of course, Sir. She'll be here by ten." He then turned to her. "Ready to go?"
She couldn't believe what she was about to do. "Just let me grab my jacket." Running up to her room, she quickly pulled her hair back before grabbing her jacket. When she made it back down the stairs she saw Luca and her father by the door. The moment Luca saw her his eyes flicked over her and he frowned. "Ready?"
