Blood Born

Chapter 2 - The Truth

Mar. 22, 2015

I couldn’t get the complete explanation from Jonathan. It wasn’t that he wasn’t willing to give it to me, I just couldn’t continue listening. I’m pretty sure I know exactly where he was going to go. He had loved his wife for so long and took so much time just to have a family with her. The only way he could save her life was to give me up. He said a life for a life. I would originally assume that that meant someone had to die so she could live, but maybe that just meant that a life would be given to him, but one also had to be taken away. From my past, because I obviously wasn’t raised by him, he chose to save his wife over keeping me. Maybe I should be glad that he wanted to keep her alive, but he took the choice to know my real father from me. He didn’t even give me a chance to be with him.

        “Jana, are you alright?”

Sighing, she closed the notebook, also closing her eyes. “I’m fine.”

He shook his head. “No, you’re not.”

She immediately felt her anger boil over and in a split second she was in front of him. “Then why ask me Eric? If you already know I’m not okay then why would you ask me if I was?” She felt tears burning her eyes, but she blinked them away. She wasn’t going to cry. She wouldn’t allow herself to cry. “Why even bother? It’s not like I’m going to be okay after I find out that that... thing is my father. He knows what you guys are doing, but he’s still trying to stop you. Why? Why would he do that? How could he be so heartless?”

All her energy seemed to dissipate in that moment and she dropped to the floor, Eric quickly kneeling down beside her. “What is going on Jana? What are you not telling me? What do you know that I don’t?”

Oh, if only she could answer that question to the fullest. She knew so much that he didn’t. She has so much knowledge he’d absolutely love to have, but she couldn’t give it to him. She couldn’t tell him everything. “Eric, I can’t tell you. I know you won’t understand why, but I just can’t tell you.” She looked away from him, just wanting to be alone. She didn’t want anyone to be near her in that moment. Being alone was the only thing she wanted, and it seemed to be the only thing she could never quite acquire.

“I’m sorry Jana, but I can’t help you unless I know.” His hand landed on her arm and she knew exactly what he was trying to do, but she blocked him out. The advantage to having his ability was knowing exactly how to stop him from getting answers from her that she didn’t want to give. “What are you doing?” His voice was strained and she knew he was feeling the pressure she had begun to put on his mind. It was the only way to stop him.

She stood up, making his hand drop. “Don’t try and get into my mind Eric. You know it won’t work. You already knew my life was off limits. The only reason you knew who my father was is because you got it by searching about someone else’s life, not my own. Don’t make the mistake of trying to get into my mind again.” She suddenly felt stronger and she was determined that she wasn’t going to let something get to her so horribly again. She wouldn’t be the weak child.

Standing, she moved past Eric. “I know what I’m going to do, and I just want you to know that you probably won’t be seeing me any time soon. I’ve been forced into this war even with as much as I’ve tried to stay out of it, and now I’m making my own side. This is no longer about what all you people want. This is about everything, and I intend to make this right.”
