The day started like any other. I was scheduled to be on patrol that morning, so I got to the government buildings early. The big red brick building loomed up in front of me. It never ceased to amaze me that it had been built in just a couple of months. I walked up the steps towards the massive double doors. I placed my ID card on the scanner and the red light slid along the top of it. I heard a click and the doors rumbled open. Sliding the card back into my jacket pocket, I stepped into the building.

I had to go through two more sets of doors before I could get to the hangar. Just as I entered the room I heard yelling coming from Bay 27. I would have to run to get to the other end of the long room, but I couldn't miss whatever was happening. As soon as I got there I pulled my helmet over my head and pushed myself farther into the crowd of people in the center of the commotion. As soon as I got close it immediately became clear what was going on.

A wide ring of people had formed, and in the center of it all was Chancellor Silver. There was a hologram screen pulled up and on it, was the image of a girl running. At first, I didn't understand what was going on, until I took a closer look. I know those mountains. They were right past the border of our civilization. The one that keeps people out of Captis, and the one that keeps everyone in.

I had been ordered to find that girl. As soon as the command was issued we jumped in the rover and floored the pedal. She was a threat. If she knew about the wall, the danger that faced the government of Captis was immense.

Normally on these patrol missions chatter filled the cabin, but this time everything was dead silent. So when our radio crackled to life with a message from back at base everyone seemed to jump. "We have to stamp them out. If there's one, there's more. We can't have this happening within Captis." We were just coming up onto a small ridge that the border was located on when my team and I got confused. She was nowhere to be seen. The GPS said we were just feet away, but she just wasn't there. But, the technology didn't lie, it never did, and it definitely didn't this time.

We hopped out of the craft and that was when we saw her. She had collapsed and was laying on the ground helplessly. I picked her up in my arms and deposited her in the back of the vehicle just as my two-way radio started to crackle.

"Take her to Ground Zero now. We'll deal with her there."

Zero, as in the government's secret underground base. I thought to myself. Oh no.

On the way back it was my turn to sit in the back, this time with our extra passenger. She was out cold, but even unconscious she was beautiful. Her dark blond hair hung in loops coming down just past her shoulders. But, pinned to her shirt, inside her dark black jacket I could see the pin. The pin with a burning, four-pointed star. The pin that symbolizes rebellion. And I knew that this situation was just about to get more complicated. More complicated for her and for Chancellor Silver.
