Chapter 6: Goku vs Great Ape Vegeta

Goku looked at Vegeta in confusion.Why would Vegeta need the moon? Then the realization hit him. Of course! In order to reach the full potential that Raditz mentioned! Goku thought, getting into a fighting stance. He wouldn't let that happen. A rock crumbled, but they both ignored the sound. They had more important things to worry about. The dust blew around them, encircling them in a dust barrier.

"What the hell happened to your moon?!" Vegeta snapped, snapping Goku out of his thoughts.

"Piccolo blew it up," Goku replied. "It's gone. You won't find it."

Vegeta's eyes widened with rage. "Well, we Saiyans have a technique that creates a moon-like light, moon or not, I can still transform! Those who have forgotten their Saiyan heritage shall pay with their life!"

Before Goku could stop him, Vegeta threw an energy blast into the air. Goku watched as a blinding light exploded out of it, causing Goku to shield his eyes. When he peeked, he saw Vegeta looking at the energy blast head on. Is he crazy?!

Suddenly, Vegeta started laughing as his body became larger, and beast-like teeth replaced his normal ones. Before Goku knew it, a giant Great Ape was staring down at him.

"Now you stand no chance against me!" Vegeta said with a laugh.

As Vegeta spoke a sudden realization hit him. A giant ape monster that had crushed their house, killing his grandfather. Tears spread to the corners of Goku's eyes as the realization slowly came to him. I - I killed him. I killed Grandpa, Goku thought, the tears not trickling down his cheeks. Of course, that explains it all, I looked at the full moon and then blacked out, woke up the next morning and Grandpa was dead.

Goku looked down at his hands in shame. He had been the cause of his grandfather's death. Goku shook his head to clear it of the unpleasant thoughts. Suddenly, Vegeta's fist collided with him, causing him to fly into a mountain. Goku cried out as he landed with a mighty thud. That had definitely had him focused on the battle. He couldn't get distracted like that again or it would cost him his life. Goku felt something trickling down his mouth and wiped it off, he was shocked to see blood.

"Damn it! I need to focus!" Goku said to himself, getting to his feet on surprisingly shaky legs. "That attack had more force than I expected, this might be a fun fight after all!"

"It will be more than a fun fight, it will be your last!" Vegeta said in a rumbling, beast-like voice that shook the ground.

"Wow, looks like not only you're a beast, but your voice is like one's too. Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I suppose," Goku said, though he was a little worried about what Vegeta would do to him for what he had said.

Rage sparked in Vegeta's eyes, and he batted Goku away. Goku smirked, he was trying to blind Vegeta with his anger. So far it seemed to be working. A sudden energy blast got both of their attention. Nappa glared at Vegeta, holding onto a mountain for support, but shaking at the effort to stand up. His hand was still up from when he had fired the energy blast. Before anyone could move, Nappa collapsed.

"Nappa, you moron!" Vegeta roared, Goku looked to his foe and saw smoke coming off of Vegeta's fur where the energy blast had hit him.

Goku watched as Vegeta glared at Nappa, fury in his red eyes. Suddenly, he shot forward, charging Nappa. Goku's eyes narrowed with determination and he got in front of Nappa. Before Vegeta could squash both of them, Goku took Nappa out of harm's way. Once Nappa was safe, Goku glared back at Vegeta.

"You're going to regret saving Nappa from me again, Kakarot!" Vegeta roared. Goku quickly got into a defensive stance, waiting for what Vegeta had to say next. "I'm going to kill you! But first, I'm going to make you suffer!"

Before Goku knew what was happening, Vegeta plowed him into a mountain with his fist. Coughing up blood, Goku landed on his back. Vegeta smirked and stepped on Goku's legs. Goku screamed in agony, tears welling up in his eyes. Goku knew his legs were broken, he could just feel it. Vegeta smirked and leaped up in the air, stomping on Goku's broken legs. Goku screamed at the top of his lungs, in agony.

"Yes, scream, scream! That's exactly what I want to hear! Scream louder!" Vegeta laughed. Goku screamed even louder as Vegeta began pressing his feet in. "Now I'm going to put you out of your misery!"

Vegeta's finger went straight for Goku's chest, but he had other plans. Before Vegeta reached Goku's chest, he fired an energy blast at Vegeta's eye, causing the prince to cry out and stomp away. Goku let out a sigh of relief and slowly rose to the air, cognizant of his broken legs. He quietly went to Nappa, and laid down next to him to catch his breath. Nappa weakly looked up at Goku, shock evident in his eyes.

"W - Why did you spare me? I killed your friends," Nappa gasped.

"I - I couldn't just let him kill one of his comrades, it's not right," Goku whispered. "Damn, I wish I had a Sensu Bean."

Goku coughed, blood spreading to the corners of his mouth. Nappa looked worried. Goku sat up and weakly began to fly, he knew he had to finish what he had started, suddenly, two large hands crushed his body, causing him to gasp in shock. He looked down and recognized Vegeta.

"I'll let you suffer a bit more," Vegeta said, crushing Goku.

Goku screamed in agony as he felt his bones cracking. Vegeta laughed and squeezed harder, causing Goku to scream louder. Goku cried out and coughed up blood. Vegeta laughed and squeezed again, this time harder. Goku felt his conciousness slipping away from him, and struggled to keep his eyes open. His vision was beginning to get blurry, like it had been when he was dying for the first time.

A sudden energy blast hit Vegeta in the back, causing Goku to jolt back into conciseness. "Get off my father! Don't touch him!" Gohan's voice shouted, blurred with strange noises.

Goku smiled weakly, it looked like they still had a chance of winning after all.
