Author's Notes | I have to admit this is something I would say is a defect in Sigurd's character. Not unjustified, yet a defect. I couldn't see him reacting any different from this.

"What in the actual fuck is going on here?"
Björn is a usual momma's boy, despite his total inability to admit it. She would have to have an enormous and pretty good reason to be doing what she's doing. And even then, it would probably not be a reason good enough for him to accept her way to act towards her mother.

"Can we sit and talk about your motivations?"
Ubbe had his troubles with his own family, but it was never reason enough for him to go this far.
He would sit and talk to his girl and maybe try to find a way to show her she's not choosing the best way to deal with her problems.

"Ease... Ease... What's exactly happening?"
Hvitserk had wars enough around him to know a fight always has two sides. He may be watching something reprovable, but he wants to know if there is no reason for this to be happening in the first place.

"Is it really worth going this far?"
Sigurd is the portrait of disrespect towards his own mother himself. So, he's the last one to criticize his S/O ways to deal with her mother. However, he doesn't want to see his girl too stressed out, and, by his own experience, he knows, sometimes, this whole mess doesn't worth the price.

"If you want to be by my side, you better learn to respect the woman who brought you into this world!"
No offense is reason enough for Ivar to accept such a thing. He wasn't up to taking on Sigurd's way to treat their mother, and he's not up to taking on anyone's mother being mistreated like that! It just doesn't matter what her mother did to her in the first place: she's her mother, and she must respect her.
Period.
